5月1日から生産を開始したKi-45 KAIaが10機ほどたまったので、5th SentaiをKi-45 KAIaに機種転換してみました。そしてセーブする前に、その後のアップグレードパスを調べてみるました。いったん屠龍に機種変更すると、その後につかえるのは主に屠龍の発展型だけで、鍾馗や飛燕や疾風をつかうことはできないようです。
フォーラムで屠龍の系統が良いという評価は見たことがなく、KAIc以降は時機を逸した性能というのが一般的な見方です。屠龍を使ってみたくて生産は開始したものの、このアップグレードパスを知ると計画変更。つくってしまった10機はもったいないけれど、当面のあいだ5th SentaiはNate装備の練習飛行隊の役割を続けることとします。
ひとつ気になるのは、アップグレードパスにKi-45 KAIdが含まれていることです。Ki-45 KAIdは陸軍機としては最初(昭和19年4月)に登場する夜間戦闘機です。ここに名前があるということは、Ki-45 KAIdはKi-45 KAIaにアップグレードした部隊専用で、97戦から隼に機種変更した部隊では使えないということなのでしょう。夜間戦闘機について、マニュアルには以下のような記載がありました。
夜間戦闘機は特別の訓練を受けていて、夜間に敵機を迎撃する。機載型レーダーを装備している機種もあるし、月明かりを頼りに訓練された肉眼で敵機を発見・捕捉して撃破する機種もある。P.140
CAPが敵の空襲を夜間に迎撃するのは昼よりもずっと難しい。夜間戦闘機は他の機種よりも上手に夜間の空襲を迎撃することができる。P.159
Ki-45 KAIdはレーダーを装備していませんが、ふつうの戦闘機よりどのくらい夜間戦闘が得意なんでしょうか？かなり顕著な差があるのかどうかがとても気になるところですが、フォーラムにもそういった情報を見かけた記憶はありません。隼でも下記のように曇りや嵐の日の夜間戦闘でダメージを与えているので、将来Ki-45 KAId装備部隊を持つべきなのか悩みます。
