昭和17年6月16日の夜、機雷との接触・爆発の音が聞かれました。ラングーンの入り口のヘクスでDD初雪と浦波の2隻が触雷していました。ラングーンにはサプライを積んだコンボイが頻繁に入港しますが、それを狙って連合軍の潜水艦が徘徊しています。この2隻の駆逐艦はラングーンからマレー半島北西岸にそってパトロールするASW TFだったのです。ラングーンに出入りするヘクスは浅海ヘクスで、艦船の出入りが多いのですから、機雷を敷設するというのはとても賢い選択で、脱帽するしかありません。2隻とも沈没せずに済んだのは幸いですが、DD初雪の方はSys 28, Flt 68(46), Eng 23(19)と大きなダメージを受けてしまいました。ラングーンでSysダメージとminorなFlt, Engダメージをすべて修理しないと、シンガポールまでの回航は危険です。移動もあわせると、全治3ヶ月くらいでしょうかね。
昨日のエントリーに、ベンガル湾で巡洋艦が連合軍の貨物船を撃沈したことと、ベンガル湾の真ん中にはもうひとつ連合軍TFがいることを紹介しました。この連合軍のTFは東に向けて航行しているAMとPGだと哨戒機が報告したので、ASW TFなのだろうと判断しました。このASW TFも食えるといいなと思って巡洋艦TFの帰路を設定してみたのですが、CA加古、CL神通、那珂は連合軍TFとの接触に成功しました。対戦してみるとASW TFではなく、xAK 1隻とxAKL 5隻をAMCとPGが護衛しているコンボイでした。巡洋艦には弱すぎる相手なので、2回の水上戦闘で7隻とも撃沈することができました。連合軍はこのTFを西に引き返させる選択はなかったんでしょうか。速度が遅いからどっちでも一緒だと判断したのか、またはVP 3~5の小さな船ばかりなのでどうでもいいやと思ったのかな。
ポートモレスビーの入り口のヘクスでI-169がxAKL Don Jose(VP 3, tonnage 1600)を撃沈しました。いちどは護衛のAM Kingfisherに見とがめられて襲撃に失敗したのですが、2度目のチャレンジで撃沈しました。ベンガル湾もここもそうですが、連合軍も前線への輸送にはなるべく小さな貨物船をつかうようにしていますね。日本側もそうしているの、気持ちは良くわかります。
明るくなってから、ラバウルの近くで大発LB-115がSS Tarponの砲撃で沈没しました。ニューギニア東北岸のMadangに陸揚げしたサプライをブナやラエに輸送するのにふつうの貨物船は使えません。航行中のBarge TFは航空攻撃を受けない仕様なので、大発を準備したのです。ところがサプライはMadangからブナまで陸上を輸送されることがわかったので、この大発は不要になりました。Madang港に停泊させているといずれは空襲で沈められることになると考え、poolに戻すことにしました。大発の召喚はマニュアル6.2.16 CREATING PT BOATS, MOTOR GUNBOATS, MIDGET SUBS AND BARGESに
PTボートを大発を召喚するには
・Transport TFをつくってサプライを搭載する。この準備があれば、Create Barge、Create PT Boats、Create MGB、Create SSXのうちの適切なボタンを押すことによって、搭載されたサプライの消費でいつでも大発のTFやPTボートのTFを召喚することができる。これは、サプライを搭載したTFのインフォメーション画面から実行できる。
・サプライの貯蔵量が10000以上で規模が1以上の港ならどこでも召喚できる。
と記載されています。Madangのサプライ貯蔵量が足りなかったので、この大発はラバウルで召喚し、PBと一緒のTFにしてPBから燃料補給を受けながらMadangまで回航したのでした。召喚と同じく、プールに大発をお返しできる港にも制限があるのかなと思って、ラバウルへ回航する途中で、潜水艦による攻撃を受けたのでした。マニュアル6.4.4.1 SUBMARINES VS. SURFACEには
潜水艦はどんな艦船をも攻撃する可能性がある。もっとも、ふつうはPTボートと大発を攻撃しようとはしないし、同じヘクスにいる艦船でも規模3より大きな港にdockしていたりdisbandしている艦船を攻撃することはない。潜水艦は浮上して大発を攻撃することがある。
と書かれてあって、今回はその浮上攻撃を受けたのでした。おそらくPBを混ぜておけば浮上攻撃されなかっただろう(PBが反撃するから)と思うと残念です。また、これを書きながら見直してみると、大発をプールに戻すのは、Madangでも可能でした。召喚はできなくてもプールに戻すのはどこの港でもいいようです。この点でも大失敗。まあ、大発のルールを見直すよい機会にはなったわけですが。
