昭和17年2月12日、ようやくシンガポールが陥落しました。ほっとしたのは確かですが、喜んではいられない現実があります。ご覧の通り、シンガポールの産業施設はResourcesもHeavy IndustryもLight IndustryもRepair Shipayardもすべて全壊状態です。ResourcesとLight Industryは放置するにしても、Heavy IndustryとRepair Shipayardは修復が必要ですし、しかも前者は拡張も考えなければなりません。合計で10万くらいのサプライの出費を覚悟することになりそうです。連合軍の工兵の敢闘にはまったく脱帽です。
飛行場と港の被害は日本側の爆撃によるものなので自業自得ではあります。もっと爆撃の手をゆるめるべきだったのでしょうが、攻城戦の途中で天候の関係か爆撃できない日が続いてfortificationを強化されてしまい、あと一歩で占領を逃したことがありました。予想以上に長くかかった攻城戦焦る気持ちもあって、ゆるめる気にはなれなかったんです。でも、この結果をみて反省しています。
ジョホール水道を越えてシンガポールの攻城戦を始めたのは1月6日です。陥落までに1ヶ月以上かかってしまいました。しかも、第2、4、21、33師団と近衞師団、それに第5師団のほとんど、合計でほぼ6個師団を注ぎ込んだのにこんなに時間がかかってしまったのです。また攻城戦のせいで第2師団以外は大きな損害を被っています。TOE比で現状を見ると、第4師団、第11聯隊は全滅、第41聯隊と第42聯隊と5th Recon regimentと12th Engineer regimentは壊滅ですね。ほかの歩兵部隊もdisabledになっているdeviceの多くは歩兵分隊と工兵分隊なので、次の作戦に使うのにはかなりの休養を要します。拙い攻め方をしてしまったわけで、反省点としては(1)渡河による強制shock attackの被害を減らすために最初に渡河する部隊数をもう少し絞るべきだった、(2)どうせこんなに時間をかけるならもっと休養に気を配って攻めるべきだったの2点でしょうか。パレンバンはなんとかなりそうですが、これらの部隊をつかってこれからジャワとビルマを何とかしなければならないのはつらいところ。
数日前に紹介したオーストラリア北西部のポートヘッドランドですが、連合軍コンボイの揚陸作業が続いています。港の規模が2なので時間がかかっているのでしょう。ここに潜伏しているI-124ですが、2月11日にはxAKL一隻に定数16発のうち2発しか残っていなかった14センチ砲を一発だけ命中させました。そして今日12日のリプレイでもI-124はxAKL Prominentを発見しました。そして攻撃のために浮上しましたが、弾薬不足のために攻撃を断念してふたたび潜水したと表示されました。これっていったい何故なんだろう。昨日も今日も魚雷で攻撃すればよかったのに。魚雷は全部で6斉射分搭載されていて、あと5回分(斉射でなければもっと多い回数分)残っているのに。14センチ砲の弾薬が少ないことに気づかずに浮上砲戦を挑むなんて不思議。すでに2隻撃沈している艦長ですが、左遷コマンドがあれば帰港時に使いたい。
