昭和17年7月13日、オーストラリアのブリスベンの東方沖で、I-2が雷撃と浮上しての砲撃でxAK Dardanusを撃沈しました。fuel cargo burningと表示されたので、fuelを輸送していたんでしょうが、護衛の艦艇はつけていないようです。その後、宗谷海峡でASWに従事していたSC Ch 29が、SS S-47に雷撃され沈没しました。深海ヘクスですが旧式のS-47はそれほど深く潜行できないようで、ASW TFの僚艦のSC Ch 29が反撃して、爆雷で船殻へのダメージが2回報告されました。残念ながら沈没音は聞こえませんでした。宗谷海峡は樺太から北海道へresourceを輸送するTFが頻繁に航海しているので、豊原と稚内にASW用の飛行隊を配備しいます。今日は連合軍SSの存在は報告されていませんが、きっとまだ1-2隻はいるんでしょう。
以前のエントリーでも触れたように、マダンにはトラックからサプライを満載したFasttransport TFがしょっちゅう入港していますが、これまで一度もポートモレスビーからの航空攻撃を受けたことがありませんでした。なので、今回の49th JNAF Unitの輸送任務もまさかこんなことになるとは予想もしていませんでした。どうして今回はこんな悲劇につながったのでしょう。サプライを積載してくるTFは1000トン積める14ノットのPBだけで構成していますが、連合軍のAI指揮官はPBを見逃してAPDは見逃さないという仕様になっているのでしょうか？またはサプライだけを積載するTFは見逃してもらえて、兵員を輸送してくるTFは狙われてしまうのか？とっても不思議。

もうひとつ気になることとして、宮古島から連合軍機の目撃報告があがっていました。哨戒機の連合軍TF目撃報告の多くが眉唾ものなのは承知しています。でも、味方根拠地の連合軍機目撃報告はかなり信頼できるものだと思っていました。でも本当に宮古島上空を連合軍偵察機が飛行したんでしょうか？もしこれが事実だとすると、開戦時に部隊が配備されていない宮古島が、開戦後も引き続き無人であることを確認することができた連合軍は、7月11日のウェーク島のように潜水艦で奇襲上陸をくわだてないとも限りませんね。
