昭和17年9月25日、昨夜もビルマのMagweには夜間空襲がありました。CAPの二式戦(Ki-44-IIa Tojo)が3機損失(A2Aで2機、Ops Loss 1機)に対して連合軍機は損失ゼロなのは相変わらず。メイクテーラ配備で夜間のCAPを指示してある二式複戦(Ki-45 KAIa Nick)がちっともMagweの上空に現れないので、昨日のうちにメイクテーラからMagweに移動させ、あらためて夜間のCAPを指示しました。しかしそれでも迎撃したのは二式単戦(Ki-44-IIa Tojo)の方だけなんですよね。なぜ屠龍は迎撃してくれないんだろう？？まあ、迎撃しても結果には大きな変化はないんでしょうけど、気になる。
昼になってニューギニア東岸のサラモアにポートモレスビーとTerapoからの空襲がありました。護衛のP-40E WarhawkがTerapoからで、A-20A1 Havocの方は双発爆撃機なのできっとポートモレスビーからでしょうね。サラモアにはレーダーが3機あって、38マイルで高度5000フィートの編隊を来襲8分前に探知しました。でもニューギニア島東部には戦闘機を配備していないのでCAPはなしです。今日の空襲で意外だったのは、低高度からの港湾爆撃だった点です。ポートモレスビーを占領されて以来、直接サラモアにサプライを揚陸したことはありません。もしかするとSIGINT情報で連合軍側のマップにはサラモア港に碇のアイコンが見えていたのかも知れません。そうでないとすると今日の攻撃の意図が理解できません。いや、もしかするとAttack Bomberが手に入ったのでみせびらかしたかっただけ？
連合軍の双発爆撃機のうち、A-20G Boston (Aus)、A-20A1 Havoc、A-20G Havoc、A-26B Invader、B-25D1 Mitchell 、B-25G Mitchell、B-25H Mitchell、B-25J11 Mitchell、PBJ-1H Mitchell (USN)の9機種はAttack Bomberです。A-20A1 HavocもAttack Bomberなので、今日の空襲では機銃掃射でFlakの制圧を行ってきました。サラモアのFlak値は14で、日本の根拠地としては少なくない方ですが、具体的には8cm40 T88 AA Gunを18門装備の野戦高射砲大隊が2個と、歩兵聯隊や特別陸戦隊のもつ高射機関砲があるだけです。しかし機銃掃射した15機のA-20A1 Havocのうち、3機がFlakで撃墜され、2機はOps Lossになっていました。投弾できた13機の爆弾42個のうち命中したのは6発でしたが、リプレイ後にはすでに修復が済んでいて、港の施設にはダメージが残っていませんでした。Attack Bomberも15機くらいの少数機だとFlakの制圧力が足りないということなんでしょう。
その後、ニューギニア南岸のMeraukeにいた連合軍のコンボイに、ダーウィンからゼロ戦(A6M2 Zero)24機の護衛で一式陸攻(G4M1 Betty)13機が攻撃に向かいました。ダーウィンにはAir HQがないので爆装なのはやむを得ないところ。Naval Attackを指示してある飛行隊2個から海上哨戒している機体を除いても50機近くは残るはずで、13機しか飛んでくれないのは残念です。コンボイの上空には7機のHurricane XIIbと18機のP-40E WarhawkがCAPしていました。ゼロ戦4機と一式陸攻1機が失われ、CAPのHurricane XIIbも2機が撃墜されました。陸揚げ中で停まっているのでしょう、6000フィートからの爆撃で、2隻のxAKLのうちの一隻と、護衛のAMに各一発爆弾が命中しました。xAKL Bideliaにはheavy firesが見えたそうだけど、アニメーションを見ていると命中したのは250kg爆弾ではなく60kg爆弾だったんですよね。また、AM MilduraからもHeavy smokeが出ているとのことです。でも両方とも沈没の報告はありませんでした。
その後、おなじTFに対してI-156が襲撃を敢行。陸攻の爆弾が命中しなかった方のxAKL Mulcraに魚雷を命中させ、浮上して砲撃も加えていました。きっと、このxAKLを護衛していたAMが陸攻の爆撃で損傷してしまい対潜警戒をできなくなったため、I-156が安全に浮上して砲撃できたのだと思います。このxAKL Mulcraは沈没しました。tonnage 1050, VP2の小さな貨物船ですが、空中と海中からの見事なコンビネーション攻撃とほめて上げるべきなんでしょう。
