昭和17年9月22日、Horn Islandの南東のヘクスで連合軍コンボイを護衛していたAM Dubboの爆雷攻撃でRO-67潜が沈没しました。このところの連合軍のトレス海峡西進に対応して、この海域に潜水艦を配置してありましたが、9月19日にもオーストラリア東岸でRO-63が撃沈されています。やはり浅海ヘクスは危険なようで、別の配置を考えないといけませんね。
その後、ビルマ中部のMagweの飛行場に夜間空襲がありました。B-17E Fortress、B-25C Mitchell合計42機がカルカッタから5波にわかれての来襲でした。月明96%と明るいはずの夜ですが、雨が激しかったのでばらけてしまっているのでしょう。敵機の高度は7000フィートでレーダー探知が困難とも思えないのですが、5波のうちレーダーが探知してくれたのは
2回だけで、11分前と9分前の探知。残りの3波は目視か聴音により14、7、5分前に発見されました。Magweはビルマで最も重要な飛行場なので複数のレーダーを配置してあります。雨の夜なのに人間の目や耳よりレーダー探知の方が遅いのはなぜなんでしょう?
敵機来襲に対してCAPの二式戦(Ki-44-IIa Tojo)21機が迎撃しましたが、成績は惨憺たるもの。二式戦は6機撃墜され、5機がOps lossだったのに対し、連合軍機は損失0。しかも爆撃により地上で3機も破壊されてしまいました。前夜も同じくカルカッタからMagweに夜間空襲があり、日本側がA2AとOps lossで7機と地上破壊7機に対して、連合軍側はA2Aで1機撃墜されたのみでした。飛行機を一つの飛行場に集中させると、こうやって地上での破壊が多くなってしまいます。なので、夜間のCAPはMagwe配置の二式戦に加えて、隣りのメイクテーラの二式複戦にも指示(range 1)してあります。昨夜も今夜もこの二式複戦が迎撃してくれなかったのも気になります。探知から来襲までの時間が短すぎるんでしょうか?でも、air borneの機体が一機もないことはないはずだと思うんですよね。豪雨で飛べなかったのかな。ともあれ、夜間空襲には打つ手なしだと感じます。日本側がarmor 1の百式重爆でカルカッタを夜間空襲しても、ほとんど命中弾なしでFlakの餌食になるだけでしょうしね。
4日前、青ヶ島近海でトラックから横須賀に戻るコンボイのxAK Singapore MaruにSS Silversidesの発射した魚雷1本が命中しました。Sys 11, Flt 59(45)と浸水被害が大きく、いったん青ヶ島にdisbandさせました。しかし、青ヶ島の港の規模が1しかなく、SysやmajorでないFltダメージを修理するのに相当長期間かかることに気付いて、横須賀まで回航することにしました。前夜は何事もなかったのですが、昨夜のリプレイをみていると

と、3回も不吉なメッセージが表示されました。本土到着を目前にして沈没してしまうのかなと心配したのですが、リプレイ後にマップを見ると無事に到着していました。ダメージの方はというと、前日にSys 11, Flt 54(45)だったものが、Sys 13, Flt 54(45)と、浸水被害には変化がなく、システム被害が2増えていました。このメッセージをぱっと見ると私には浸水被害が増えているのだろうとしか思えないのですが、英語に堪能な人が見るとそうでもないんでしょうか?flotation repairには浸水を減らすためのポンプの修理も含まれていて、それが失敗したからSysダメージが増えたんでしょうか?それにしてもメッセージ3回でSysダメージが2しか増えてないのも不思議で、3歩進んで1歩下がったのか?あと、このメッセージを見ながら”flotation”だとaが足りないんじゃないかと感じてしまいましたが、ぐぐってみるとaのある”floatation”はイギリスでの書き方なんだそうです。とにかく、いろいろと疑問や学びの多いゲームです。
