昨日に引き続き、昭和17年3月28日も散々でした。まずは、昨日の午後に艦砲射撃を受けたルーガンビルが、夜になってから同じ艦隊に再度の艦砲射撃を受けました。戦艦3隻、重巡5隻という大きな艦隊だったので、一回の戦闘だけでは弾丸を消費しきれなくてこうなったのか？それとも、万が一の敵水上艦隊との遭遇に備えて艦砲射撃後も3分の1ほど弾薬が余る使用なので、その剰った弾薬を利用してもう一度の艦砲射撃を指示したのか？どちらかは今のところ不明です。せっかくトラックから移動させた二式大艇も含めて、12機が損傷し1機が破壊されてしまいました。また死傷者254名、Airbase hits 5、Airbase supply hits 2、Runway hits 20、Port hits 9、Port supply hits 1と、昨日ほどではありませんが、それなりの被害が出てしまっています。
しばらく補給なしでダーウィン攻略戦に従事してきた第38師団のサプライ状況がそろそろ怪しくなってきています。本当は、昨日のshock attackでダーウィンは陥落している予定だったので、陥落後のサプライ輸送船団第一陣になるはずだったxAK Hokko MaruとPB Hakata Maru #2からなるamphibious TFを、ダーウィンの沿岸砲が健全かどうか試す意味で突入させることになってしまいました。500トンほどのサプライの揚陸に成功しましたが、xAK Hokko Maruに沿岸砲の砲弾が4発命中して炎上中です。
そして、ずっと無人だったはずのアキャブにラングーンからYokosuka 1st SNLFによる空挺降下作戦を実施しました。アキャブには連日偵察機を送って、連合軍のLCUがいないと報告され続けていました。そんなわけでこの作戦を実施したわけですが、実際には254th Armoured Brigadeと50th Tank Brigadeがいました。陸戦はもちろん惨敗です。detection level 9/10ではLCUの存在が確定できないものなんでしょうか？それとも、たまたま昨日アキャブに移動して来たところに出くわしたんでしょうか？いずれにしても、アキャブを無人と考える方がおかしかったのかも知れません。でも、ここを英軍におさえられると、ビルマの航空戦に響くのでなんとかしなければ。それにしても、大東亜共栄圏のどこをみても苦戦ばかりの昭和17年3月末です。
