昭和17年4月9日は、ツラギからラバウルに向かう軽巡木曽がSS Tautogに雷撃される場面から始まりました。命中しましたが、幸いに不発。同行していたのはAPD Tachikazeだったので、兵員を載せた南行きのFast Transport TFかもしれないと連合軍は感じたかも知れません。
その後、連合軍によるエスピリッツサント諸島ルーガンビルへの艦砲射撃が始まりました。今日はBB Warspiteと重巡2隻、軽巡4隻のイギリス艦隊でした。先日、艦砲射撃の挙動に仕様変更かというエントリーで艦砲射撃TFが翌朝まで居座ってしまう問題に触れました。あの後、4月6日にバリ島のデンパサールにCA CornwallとCA Dorsetshireと軽巡3隻からなるイギリス艦隊の艦砲射撃がありました。この艦砲射撃は夜のうちに終了し、日が昇った時点ではどこかに遁走していました。しかし今日の艦砲射撃TFは、朝になってもルーガンビルのヘクスにとどまり続け、夜が明けてからもう一度、艦砲射撃を実施したのです。
何度目に当たるのか、恒例となった艦砲射撃ですから、一応の対策としてルーガンビルから距離12ヘクスのガダルカナル島ルンガに一式陸攻定数36機の鹿屋空とAir HQを配備してありました。先日は指示のミスで雷撃に飛んでくれませんでしたが、今日は午前と午後の2波で合計43機の一式陸攻が雷撃に向かいました。午前の攻撃のアニメーションでは、25機のうち16機がBB Warspiteを攻撃して3本の魚雷が命中しました。午後の攻撃は18機すべてが巡洋艦を攻撃しました。午前の9機とあわせると合計27機が巡洋艦を攻撃したのですが、魚雷の命中は一本もありませんでした。
戦艦と違って、巡洋艦や駆逐艦に魚雷を命中させるのは困難ですね。陸攻よりは運動性の良好な艦攻ならもう少しましな戦果を得られるものなのでしょうか?空母戦でも、まずは艦爆で行き足を止めて艦攻でとどめを刺すことが必要といわれていますから、敏捷に回避行動を行える艦艇に魚雷を命中させるのはやはり難しいんでしょう。それと、Reluctant Admiral modでは素のGCより開戦時のパイロットのスキルが低く設定されています。攻撃前に鹿屋空に配属されていた41名のパイロットをみなおしてみると、NavTが70以上なのは16名で、NavT 50台が15名もいました。開戦後4ヶ月が経過して、訓練によりNavT 70以上の新人パイロットも増えつつありますが、彼らは陸攻部隊よりも母艦配属の艦攻部隊に優先して配置しているので、まだこんな有り様です。
今一番気になるのは、BB Warspiteが本当に沈んだのかどうかです。Inteligence画面のSunkShipsのリストにも、Trackerにも沈んだと報告されています。でも、リプレイの航空攻撃では沈没のアニメーションは表示されず、その後もリプレイ中に沈没音はきかれませんでした。そして、今日のマップを見ると、ルーガンビルのヘクスには連合軍のTFが二ついることがわかります。9隻からなるTFの方は艦砲射撃TFのはずで、重巡2隻・軽巡4隻が、戦艦3隻・軽巡3隻と報告されているのはご愛敬です。そしてもう一つの一隻だけのTFがBB WarspiteのEscort TFということはないのかなと疑いたくなってしまうのです。
航空攻撃で撃沈した時には沈没音はきかれない仕様だったような気もするし、またマニュアルの6.2.3.1 AUTOMATIC SHIP SEPARATION FROM TF DUE TO DAMAGE AND LOSS OF SPEEDには
戦艦または空母をTFから分派する際には、主力艦を護衛するための艦艇が一隻同行させられ。その一隻にはなんらかの対潜能力を持った艦艇(ふつうは駆逐艦)があてられる。
と書かれているので、損傷したBB Warspiteが駆逐艦とともにEscort TFに編成され、その後BB Warspiteが沈んで駆逐艦一隻だけのTFになったのでしょう。また、午後の一式陸攻の雷撃がすべて巡洋艦を指向したのは、そこに戦艦がいなかったからだと考えるのが順当でしょうし。
ということで、戦艦一隻の戦果。一式陸攻8機損失、パイロットも8名がKIAになるなど日本側の損害も小さくはなく、また東京ローズの放送もありませんでしたが、中の人の士気は向上しました。また、挙動変更のせいで、敵の航空攻撃の恐れのあるところに艦砲射撃を行うことの危険性が明らかになったという点でも、意味のある戦闘でした。そして、史実ではソロモン諸島をめぐっての死闘でしたが、このゲームではルーガンビルをめぐって死闘になりつつあります。できればこれに懲りて、もうルーガンビルに艦砲射撃に来ないで欲しいところ。施設の被害とサプライの破壊による減少が続き、しかも輸送船でサプライを送ることが危険でかなり困っているのです。
と、ここまでブログを書き終えた後、相手の方からのPBEMセーブファイルを開いてみると、BB Warspiteは残念ながらやはり沈んでいなかったことが判明しました。でも、ルーガンビルから一日で1ヘクスしか移動していないので、かなりの重傷なのは間違いないでしょう。それにしても、今日はルンガの陸攻隊はとどめを刺すための攻撃に向かってくれませんでした。天候のせいかな。
