昭和17年3月22日、ビルマ南西岸のアキャブに連合軍TFが発見されました。ビルマにはラングーンとモールメンに九七重爆を配置してありますが、どちらも地上目標の爆撃を設定してありました。なので、このTFは見逃すことになるのかなと思っていたら、ラングーンに配置してある東港空の九七大艇が爆撃してくれました。東港空にはprimary missionとしてNaval Attackを指示してありましたが、ビルマにはAir HQを配置していなかったので雷撃ではなく爆撃の設定でした。東港空のパイロットのNavBスキルは21~39とかなり低く、戦果は全く期待していませんでした。それなのに、2隻も撃沈してくれたのには驚きます。まあ、高度が6000フィートと低く、目標がおそらく揚陸中の貨物船だった(回避運動のできる航海中ではない)からではあるのでしょうが、このゲームの緒戦で連合軍がカタリナを艦船攻撃に使用してかなりの成功を収めましたし、複数の爆弾を搭載する飛行艇はNavBが低くても命中させやすいというフォーラムでの噂はその通りのようです。
午前午後と2波にわたって攻撃してくれたことも意外でした。東港空には海上哨戒50%と休養50%を指示してあったので、定数18機のうち9機は哨戒飛行をして連合軍TFを発見してくれたのだと思います。ラングーンからアキャブまでは距離8ヘクスと比較的遠いので、同じ機体が午前午後と出撃するのは時間的に無理でしょうから、休養していた9機のうちの4機が午前、別の4機が午後に出撃してくれたのだと思います。この連合軍TFを構成する艦船はxAKLばかりだったようで、xAKL 2隻撃沈と戦果としては小さなものでしたが、こんなところに何しに来ていたのかが気になります。戦闘後の状況をみると、アキャブにはまだ数隻の連合軍艦船がいますが、LCUを示す正方形は表示されていないので、ビルマの英軍地上部隊のサプライ不足を少しでも緩和するため、サプライを運んで来たのかなと考えています。チッタゴンにも後続する(?)連合軍TFがいますし、この方面の哨戒は厳にしないといけませんね。マップ上にsearach arcが表示されていますが、黒い色の線のsearch arcは午前と午後の両方に哨戒することになっている(青は午前、緑は午後)ので、天候が悪かったりしてもどちらかは飛んでくれると期待しています。
今日はMeiktilaの陸戦で惨敗を喫しました。英軍部隊はラングーンに集中している(袋のネズミともいう)ので、後方の守りは手薄だろうと予想して、鉄道線の東側の道路を経由して14th Tank Regimentをビルマ中部へ進出させていました。3月20日にMeiktilaに到着し、楽勝のつもりでdeliberate attackを実施したところ、2nd Royal Tank RegimentとUpper Burma BAF Battalionに修正AV比1対2で敗北。このMeiktilaの地形はcultivatedで、防御効果がないところです。そのため、21日22日と連日の英空軍の爆撃でさらにdisruption, fatigueとdisabledが増加してしまいました。そして今日の英軍の攻撃には修正AV比1対3で敗北し、Taung Gyiに撤退を余儀なくされたのです。14th Tank Regimentは九五式軽戦車を装備しているのですが、2nd Royal Tank RegimentのStuart I軽戦車にはまったくかなわないようです。このエントリーを書いた後、Wikipediaをみていたら
1942年2月にビルマ（当時）のラングーンをめぐる戦いではイギリス第7機甲旅団所属の第2戦車連隊所属のM3軽戦車(総数約150輌）が活躍した。非力な日本軍の九四式37mm速射砲や戦車砲ではM3軽戦車の正面装甲は貫通できず、逆にM3の37 mm 砲はすべての日本戦車の装甲を遠距離から貫通できた。その為、ラングーンの北東80 km に位置するペグー付近では十数輌のM3が戦車第2連隊軽戦車中隊所属の九五式軽戦車4輌を1,500 m 以上の距離から全滅させるという戦闘を行っている。ただし戦車部隊の活躍をもってしても彼我の圧倒的兵力差までは埋めきれず、1942年3月にはイギリス軍はラングーンから脱出し、同市は日本軍の手に落ちている。
と書かれていました。史実同様の結果になってしまったわけですね。さて、しばらく前からラングーンにいる部隊には砲撃を指示しています。今日も死傷者15名、2分隊と車輛2輛に被害があったと報告され、砲撃自体による戦果はわずかなものですが、ラングーンの英軍部隊のサプライを消費させる効果を期待しています。今日のマップでラングーンの英軍にマウスカーソルをあててみると、兵員数760、砲16門、装甲戦闘車輛83台と表示されました。コンバットリポートには二個師団、一個連隊、5個旅団がいると報告されているので、その差の大きさには驚かされます。 マウスカーソルをあてた時の情報にFoWが大きく関与する仕様は分かりますが、 ラングーンのdetection levelが1/7ととても低いとはいっても、自軍の根拠地ですからDLの数値に関わらず、たとえ陸戦を仕掛けなくてももっと精確な敵情が分かってもいいのではと感じてしまいます。
