ARDがラバウルに無事到着

ポートモレスビーをはじめニューギニア東部の攻略を進めているのと、ソロモン諸島の根拠地に飛行場や港を建設しているために、トラック→ラバウル→ソロモン、ニューギニア航路の船団移動が頻繁です。昭和17年1月3日のリプレイを見ていると、ラバウルの南東のヘクスに連合軍色の機雷マークがありました。昨日まではなかった機雷です。その直後に触雷の音が聞こえてきたのでかなり驚きました。というのも、昨日はこのヘクスを通ってラバウルに入港する予定の重要な船団があったからです。
その重要な船団というのはトラックからやってくるARDで、幸いこのARDが触雷したわけではありませんでした。日本のARDは3000トンまでしか入渠できませんが、潜水艦のFltダメージを修理する浮きドックとしては有用で、ぜひラバウルに配置したいと思っていました。ラバウルの占領は12月20日でしたが、それよりずっと早く12月9日にトラックを出港し、27日かけて昨日ようやくラバウルに到着できました。
途中で潜水艦に襲われるのが非常に心配でした。見張りが潜水艦の魚雷を発見して命中を避けようと転舵した時に、どのくらい機敏に舵に反応してくれるかを示すのがManeuver値だと、どこかで読んだような気がします。いまフォーラムを検索してもひっかからないのでどのスレで読んだのか不明ですが、マニュアルの85ページには、Naval Unitのインフォメーション画面の見方が空母レキシントンを例に説明されていて、そこでは艦船のManeuverについて、
この空母のManeuverはかなり低めの26しかなく、 すばしこい駆逐艦とは違って急に向きを変えたりすることができない。
と書かれているので、航行中に魚雷や投下された爆弾を避けたり、他の艦船との接触事故を起こさないでいられるかどうかに関連しているのは確かだろうと思います。日本の艦船でManeuver値の低い方からリストにしてみるとこんな感じで、ARDはダントツに低くなっています。大きい艦船ほど小回りがききにくい傾向はあるのでしょうが、数千トン規模でも駆逐艦や巡洋艦の多くは40~60台です。最高速度18ノットの神州丸のManeuver値が低いのはドック型揚陸艦的な船型だからなんでしょうね。
連合軍が潜水艦をトラックからラバウルの間にパトロールさせるのは当然予想されます。Maneuver値1しかないARDは雷撃されたらまず絶対に避けられないので、なんとか雷撃されること自体を防ぎたいもの。対策として、ASW TFを一つつくって、そのTFをラバウルに向けて航行させ、ARDのTFにはそのASW TFをフォローさせることにしました。通過するヘクスに連合軍潜水艦がいるとしても、ヘクスに先に侵入するASW TFの方を攻撃してくれるかもしれないので。
もう一つの対策として、トラックからラバウルへ航行するTFを二種類に分けました。上陸船団を含めふつうのTFはニューアイルランド島の西側を、ARDとタンカーTFは東側を航行させました。トラックからラバウルへはway pointを指定しないとニューアイルランド島の西側まわりになるので、連合軍もこちらに潜水艦をパトロールさせる数を多くするのではないかと思われるので。ただ、西まわりの航路を通る艦船が少なすぎると連合軍に不審を抱かせるでしょうから、沈んでも仕方がないと思えるTFはこちらを経由させたのです。
こういった対策にどれだけ効果があったのかは不明ですが、無事にラバウルに到着できてほっとしています。リプレイが終わって確認してみると、触雷音の犯人は連合軍のSS Tunaで、なんと神戸で機雷に接触していました。神戸に機雷がたくさん敷設されていることは連合軍プレイヤーも知っているはずなので、パトロールさせるヘクスの入力ミスかもしれません。高松のヘクスで沈没したと報告されていますが、本当に沈んだかどうかは謎です。
