昭和17年1月2日、大きな動きはなく、潜水艦の活躍が続きます。フィジーのSuvaの南のヘクスでI-10がxAK Santa Teresaを雷撃。セレベス島マカッサルのヘクスの機雷を掃海していたDMS W-7(tonnage 750, VP 3)がオランダのSS KXVに雷撃され沈没。おかえしにジャワ島の西でI-153がオランダのJan van Amstel級掃海艇AM Abraham Crijnssen(tonnage 450, VP 2)を雷撃して撃沈しました。そして、潜水艦の戦闘はもうひとつあり、タヒチの南東のヘクスでI-16がxAKL Tamaraを砲撃しました。
SSX搭載中の潜水艦も攻撃してくれるというエントリーで、SSXを搭載している母艦潜水艦も連合軍艦船を攻撃することを書きましたが、このI-16もSSXを搭載しています。タヒチ港内の艦船をSSXで攻撃させようと思って派遣したのに、忘れっぽい総司令官が到着に気づかずしばらく放置状態になっていたのでした。そこへ今日連合軍艦船が通りかかって、浮上砲戦を挑んだようです。このコンバットアニメーションをみていて不思議に感じたことがあります。それは、砲撃を一回行った後に、ダメージのために潜行するという決断を艦長が下して、攻撃を中止してしまったことです。ご覧の通りI-16にはSysダメージが2ありますが、これは前のターンから変化がありません。搭載しているSSXの方はダメージ0でした。ダメージのために潜行という決断がなぜ下されたのかが不思議です。”Kawakubo W. decides to submerge SS I-16 due to damage”という文章はもしかすると、”相手のxAKL Tamaraに与えたダメージが大きいので潜行することにした”という風に解釈すべきものなんでしょうか?まあ、xAKLでも一発の砲弾命中では撃沈にはいたらないでしょうが、I-16の夜間のexpが2向上しただけでも良しとしましょうか。
そして本日一番の注目は、オーストラリア西岸でRO-33のみつけたこの連合軍TF。(本当はみつけるだけでなく、空母に魚雷をぶち込んで欲しかったところですが、みつけただけでもお手柄ではあります。報告によるとCVL一隻を含んだTFで北西に向かって航行中。CVLといえばハーミーズですが、先日の雷撃の被害があるので、今日この位置にいるとは思えません。今の時期の連合軍にはほかにCVLはいないと思うので、正規空母なのでしょうか?みつかったTFは二つで、空母を含んだTFは一つですが、このCVLが本当は正規空母なのだとしたら、開戦時に配置されていた空母レキシントン、サラトガ、エンタープライズの機動部隊をのうち二つか、もしかすると三つをオーストラリア南岸経由でパースに派遣したのかと想像します。日本の機動部隊がポートモレスビー上陸の支援でその近海にいることを連合軍は知っていますから、機動部隊のいない蘭印に空母を移動させて、日本のスマトラ、ジャワ攻略を邪魔するつもりなのかもしれません。
ちょうどクーパンに龍驤、祥鳳、瑞鳳の3軽空母からなるmini KBがいるので、南西に向かわせることにしました。もし本当に二つか三つの空母機動部隊が北上中ならかなり危険なのですが、クーパンの陸攻と大艇の傘の外には出ないようにして、チャンスを狙ってみようと思います。ところで、このRO-33にはDL(detection level)が表示されていません。ということはDL 0/0で相手に存在を知られていないということです。こういう時に連合軍側には自軍のTFが日本に存在を察知されていることが分かるんでしょうか?つまりDLが1/1以上になっているのでしょうか。もし察知されていること自体分からないようなら、奇襲の可能性も出てきて楽しみなんですけどね。
