昭和17年1月7日、パゴパゴの北方でクイーン・エリザベス号を目撃しました。一個師団をまるまる輸送できる豪華客船なので、空母を除くと、沈めたい艦船リストの筆頭にあがる船です。ここは周囲になにもない大海原のヘクスですが、ハワイの真珠湾とフィジーのSuvaを結ぶ航路上かなと思ってRO-68にパトロールさせていました。そのヨミが的中しただけに、RO-68の魚雷がはずれたことがとても残念です。クイーン・エリザベスはたしかヨーロッパに向けてwithdrawされる予定の船なので、もう2度と目にする機会はないでしょう。それにしても、オーストラリア方面に向けてアメリカル師団でも輸送していたものか、それともアメリカ西海岸にむけて空っぽで航海していたものか、今後の南太平洋の状況に大きく影響するだけに、沈めることはできなくとも、それくらいは知りたかったところです。
都市や街を占領した時には、MIAとなったパイロットの解放を期待できる。私は日本側をプレイしていてシンガポールで数人のエースをMIAというかたちで失った(いま1942年2月)。それらエースが(被弾時に自爆攻撃など考えず)捕虜として生きていてくれて、抑圧的なイギリス帝国の監獄の壁に騒々しく打撃を与える日本の解放軍の手で、自由になる日がくることを...
と書かれています。これまでMIAになったパイロットについてこの点を注意してみたことがありませんでした。でも言われてみれば、敵地上空でMIAになったパイロットはそこを占領すれば解放されるという仕様はあってもおかしくないですよね。数ヶ月後のスラバヤ解放時にこのエースが帰還できるのかどうかに注目してみたいと思います。
スクリーンショットにお示ししているように、哨戒機の報告ではCVEがいることになっています。でも、今日の攻撃は2隻ともタンカーが相手でした。CVEがいるのに無視してタンカーを攻撃するとは思えないし、それほど大きなTFでもないようですから、CVEがいるというのは誤報なのでしょうね。ちょうど珊瑚海海戦でAOネオショーが空母と間違えられたように。まあ、ここまで来たので、mini KBにはパースを襲わせてみましょうか。
