1941年12月31日、上海にB-17による夜間の港湾爆撃がありました。上海には艦船修理用工廠があるし、拠点となる港湾なので、艦船在泊が確実と見て攻撃してきたのでしょう。たった2機の7000フィートからの爆撃にも関わらず、2隻のxAKに1発ずつ爆弾が命中して、それぞれSys 28, Flt 7(7), Eng 3(1)とSys 22, Flt 9(9), Eng 0の被害がありました。上海には夜間(昼間も)のCAPを上げていなかったし、Moonlight 96%だったし、AAユニットはいなかったしと、いろいろ悪い条件は重なったのですが、夜の爆撃で2隻の艦船に爆弾が命中するのはあり得ないっていう感じがします。これが昼間だともっとたくさんの被害を受けるので、連合軍の4発爆撃機には開戦時から本当に悩まされています。
こういう経験は多くの人がもっているようで、例えば最近のWhy bombing isn't borked (IMHO)というスレのポスト#2には、
B-17による港湾爆撃でしょっちゅう爆弾が命中している。じっさい、AARを書いたあるゲームでは500ポンド爆弾を複数命中させた日本の戦艦が一日だけの爆撃で沈没してしまった。火災のために港湾施設による修理ができず(訳注:鎮火しないと港にdisbandできない)、船殻だけを残して燃え尽きて沈んでしまったようだ。現在進行中のゲームでは夜間の港湾爆撃でマニラ港の空母ワスプに複数の250kg爆弾を命中させた。ゲームで使われている命中判定は、命中する確率が充分に高いことが問題だ。今しがたのターンでは高度15000から20000フィートの夜間の港湾爆撃で3発も命中弾を得た。もし昼間の爆撃だったら1ダース以上の命中になっていただろう。史実では、4発爆撃機の半数命中半径が数マイル程度で、搭載された爆弾は同時に投下されるから一発がはずれれば残りの爆弾もはずれるのがふつうだったのに対して、このゲームでは爆弾の命中判定が爆撃機ごとではなく爆弾一発ごとに行われているので、20発の爆弾を搭載していれば20発がそれぞれ命中判定を受けて命中する可能性がある。現在採用されているモデルは、B-29が搭載している20発の爆弾を一発ごとに狙いを定めて投下する爆撃行を20回繰り返すようなものだ。
と書かれていました。パッチでの修正を希望したいところですが、(すぐには)実現しそうにありません。コンバットアニメーションをみていると、赤い航跡線は図の薄暗い部分(夜間爆撃なので薄暗い)までしか表示されていませんでしたが、延長してみると長沙があります。長沙にはB-17以外にも戦闘機や双発爆撃機を配置してあるようです。華中の鉄道線の確保後には漢口(現在の飛行場レベル7)に満州から九七重爆と整備部隊を移動させる予定ですが、 その時点でも長沙に連合軍機を配置し続けているようなら、長沙爆撃キャンペーンを始めるつもりです。
ちなみに現在の中国戦線ですが、華中の鉄道線を遮断する中国軍部隊の掃除はかなりはかどって、Sinyangの北東のヘクスを残すのみです。このヘクスを確保できれば満州・朝鮮から漢口まで戦略移動が可能となりとも便利です。今日の戦闘では排除できませんでしたが、明日には占拠を予定しています。
また、中国の都市については現在、洛陽と温州を攻略中です。両方とも数日中に落とすことができると思います。他方、漢口の北西の宜昌は今日の戦闘で中国のものとなりました。宜昌には工業もresourceの産出もないので、中華民国(汪兆銘政府)軍一個師団のみ配置だったのであっさり陥落しました。宜昌ヘクスは平原なので中国軍に多数のユニットを配置させ続けるよう誘導できれば、爆撃でかなりのダメージを与えることができると思うので、敵手に落ちても惜しくはない都市、というか罠的につかってみたい都市ではあります。
