昭和17年5月10日、宗谷海峡でxAK Utide MaruがSS S-45に雷撃されました。魚雷一本命中でも沈没は免れましたが、大きな被害を受けたためコンボイからはずされて単艦でEscort TFに編成されたようです。その後SS S-43の雷撃を受け、今度は魚雷が3本命中して沈没しました。浅海ヘクスだけで行き来できる釜博航路とは違って、稚泊航路(このゲームでは稚豊航路と呼ぶべきか)には深海ヘクスが含まれるので、現在の日本の最新型の爆雷でも制圧できず、潜水艦の狩り場となっています。
連合軍は、占領後まず戦闘機だけを進出させていたポートモレスビーに爆撃機も移動させたようで、ブナへの大規模な空襲がありました。単発のA-24はいいとして、52機のB-17Eの威力は絶大です。ポートモレスビー戦当日に爆撃されて以来3日ぶりですが、今日だけで飛行場施設のダメージが47に、滑走路ダメージが65に跳ね上がってしまいました。修理には10日ほどかかるでしょうが、爆撃は10日おきなんてことはないはずなので、ブナ飛行場は閉鎖決定です。連合軍の興味が他にうつって、ブナへの爆撃がしばらく途切れた時には、サプライズ的になにかできるかも知れませんが。あと、トレス海峡のHorn Islandにも空襲がありました。ポートモレスビーを失った今となっては、ここを保持する意味はないなと感じています。
ニューギニア東部は、ブナ、ラエから北のマダンまで放棄するつもりです。このゲームではスタンレー山脈越えのサプライ輸送が問題なく行えます。日本側がポートモレスビーを保持している時には、ラエやブナにサプライを輸送することでポートモレスビーを支えることができました(そのせいで2万トン以上のサプライをプレゼントすることになってしまいました)。連合軍側にも同じことがいえて、ポートモレスビーに部隊やサプライを送れば、ここを策源地にしてニューギニア島北岸を攻め上がってゆけます。もちろん、スタンレー山脈を越えるには時間がかかりますが、まだ昭和17年5月ですから史実よりはずっと早いし。そう考えると、多数の陸上機の支援を受けた米軍歩兵2個師団以上(その気ならもっと増援してくるかも)を相手に守れるものではないと思います。ただしジャングルヘクスの輸送効率は悪く、ポートモレスビーからウエアク、アイタペまでは兵站輸送ができないはずなので、なんとかしばらく確保し続けたいと思います。またトラックの安全確保のためにはマヌスが重要に感じてきています。
インド洋でmini KBがアッズ環礁の北に連合軍のコンボイを発見し、九七艦攻の雷撃で貨物船5隻を撃沈しました。太平洋では潜水艦がコンボイに遭遇することがしばしばあります(雷撃に至らないことも多いのが残念)。しかしインド洋では発見の頻度が低い印象だったので、連合軍コンボイがどの辺を航海しているのか探るためにmini KBを派遣してみました。私も連合軍側をもって対AI戦を半年弱プレイしたことがありますが、その時にはアバダンのfuelをカラチか、またはケープタウン(そしてケープタウンからはオーストラリア西岸のパースへ)に輸送していました。ケープタウンへはアバダンからマップ外の航路を直接に設定することができないので、ソコトラ島を中継させていました。もしかすると同じようなことをしているのではと想像して、アラビア海までmini KBを捜索に送るつもりでしたが、まさかこんなところでコンボイに出会うとは。チェックしてみると、ここはケープタウンからマドラス方面への航路上のようです。そういえば、セイロン島東側のヘクスでタンカーを含んだコンボイに遭遇したことがあるので、ケープタウンからインド東岸にコンボイを向かわせているのだと思われます。私だったら、インド東岸に向かわせるなんて怖くてできないですね。カラチじゃ遠すぎるということでしょうかね。
