気になる新作が続けてふたつ発表されました。ひとつは「新しいiPad」。iPad3ではなくて、iPadなんですね。Appleのサイトでビデオをみてみましたが、「目に見えて革命的」というコピーに違わず、大きな変更点はディスプレイのようです。ただ、web browseと文書を読むという私の主な用途からいうと、Retinaディスプレイになること自体には魅力を感じません。実際、iPhoneも3GSから4Sに機種変更した時もRetinaディスプレイ、きれいだとは思いましたが、それほど大きな変化だとは感じませんでした。これまでどおりにiPad2を愛用したいと思います。
もうひとつはSImCityで、こちらもSimCity 5ではなくて単にSimCityでした。ラッシュアワーからでももうだいぶになるような気がしますが、素のSimCity 4の発売はもう10年近く前のことだったんですね。SimCity 5はずっと待ち望んでいたので、新たなSimCityの制作には期待しています。ただ気になるのは、SimCity 4が3年くらい前には新しかったうちのPCでもかなり重かったことです。重い主な原因はグラフィックではなく、Simたちをシミュレーションする処理の方だとか。そういった処理を担うCPUの方には近年それほど大きな進化がなかった印象なのですが、重すぎてプレイできないなんてことにはならないのでしょうか？グラフィックの進歩や、他のプレイヤーの都市を自分のシティの近隣都市としてプレイできるなんていうことにはあまり興味がないので、正統な進化をしてくれるのかが心配です。
さて、ここしばらく大きな動きがなかったPBEMですが、昭和17年4月26日は小さなイベントがいくつかありました。まず、RO-34がセイロン島西方でCL Danaeを雷撃して魚雷が一本命中しました。今日のSunk Ship listにはCL Danaeの名前がありましたが、アニメーションにはHeavy Damageと表示されてはいても、沈没音はきかれなかったし、まさか魚雷一本で沈んだということはないでしょう。CL DanaeはD級の僚艦CL Dauntless、駆逐艦2隻とともに(もしかすると他にもいたのかも)航海していたので、雷撃後にはDD Fortuneによる爆雷攻撃を受けました。コンバットリポートにはhits 9と報告されていますが、命中ではなく近くで爆発しただけだったのでSys 20, Flt 15, Eng 1と比較的軽傷ですみました。シンガポールまでは充分に帰り着けると思います。この雷撃のお返しに、ラバウルの南でブナへサプライを輸送するコンボイがS-37に襲撃され、PB Tsuneshima Maruが撃沈されてしまいました。両軍通じて、久しぶりの沈没艦です。
しばらく前から、ケープタウン発オーストラリア西岸のパース行きのコンボイがしばしば報告されています。ラングーンへの陸兵の輸送も一段落したので、ベンガル湾でパトロールしていたMini KBをインド洋の通商破壊に派遣することにしました。シンガポールからジャワ海、スラバヤ、バリ海峡経由でインド洋に出たのですが、2日間航海したところでオランダのAMc Rindjaniを発見してしまいました。小さな機雷敷設艇にきちんと魚雷を命中させてくれた点はいいのですが、こんなところで存在を明かしてしまっては連合軍も警戒するに違いありませんから、通商破壊任務は失敗ですね。連合軍が小艦艇でピケット線を設定していたのならgameyと非難するところかもしれませんが、このAMc Rindjaniはバタビア陥落後にここまでようやく避難して来た船なので、ご愁傷様というしかありません。
今日は連合軍のジャワ島最後の拠点であるTjilatjapが陥落しました。手こずるかとも思っていたのですが、第一回総攻撃で占領できました。コンバットリポートには占領にともなって連合軍機を地上で19機破壊したことが報告されています。しかしTrackerをみるとこのほかに7機がA2Aで破壊されたことになっていました。占領にともなう航空機の損失はすべてOperational Lossとして処理されるものかと思っていたのですが、そうではないようです。バタビア、バンドンと順に攻略して来ていて、これまでTjilatjapの飛行場に対する本格的な爆撃は実施できていませんでした。おそらく、オランダ軍は残存航空機をすべてTjilatjapに集めて哨戒・偵察飛行をしていたのだと思われます。これまで注意を払ったことがなくて気付きませんでしたが、占領当日に飛行任務を実施している機体の損失は、Ops LossではなくAir Lossとして計上されるのかなと想像しますが、どうでしょう。
