昭和17年11月22日、前日ニューギニア南岸のMeraukeで貨物船を沈めたDD夏潮と初風ですが、攻撃後に撤退するよう指示するのを忘れていたので、Meraukeのヘクスにとどまっていました。夜のフェーズでアンボン方面に撤退させるのですが、そのまま帰らせるのもなんなので、Meraukeを艦砲射撃してみました。しかし駆逐艦2隻の艦砲射撃はなんの効果もありませんでした。駆逐艦の艦砲射撃に意味がないというのは、いちおうあらたな発見です。
今日も夜間空襲がありました。きっと爆撃機数に余裕が出てきたのでしょう、月明かりのあるうちは毎日やって来ることになるようです。昨晩はまだ月明100%でしたから、あと一週間は夜間空襲に悩むことになります。ニューギニア戦線では今日もホーランディアにポートモレスビーから5波34機が(B-17E Fortress 3機、B-17F Fortress 27機、B-24D Liberator x 4機)が来襲。ゼロ戦(A6M3b Zero) 9機が迎撃にあたりましたが、5波のうち後の方の集団ほど、迎撃にあたるゼロ戦の数が減ってゆき、爆撃の被害が大きくなります。Airbase hits 5、Runway hits 21と、ゼロ戦に空戦で8機、地上で10機と多数の被害がでました。
ビルマでは今日はメイクテーラにカルカッタから7波58機(B-17E Fortress 5機、B-24D Liberator 17機、B-25C Mitchell 19機)が来襲。二式戦(Ki-44-IIa Tojo) 13機が迎撃しましたが、Airbase hits 12、Airbase supply hits 3、Runway hits 24と二式戦が空戦で11機と、ほかの機種も含めて地上で14機破壊の被害でした。
日本側はラングーンからアキャブへ、二式戦のsweepと二式戦の護衛で百式重爆14機と九六陸攻19機が飛行場爆撃に出かけました。アキャブの飛行場は使用不能状態ですが、使用不能を続けさせることとサプライを破壊することが目的です。前日もアキャブ飛行場を爆撃しましたが、今日は連合軍がアキャブ上空にCAPを配置していました。待ち伏せのサプライズ迎撃ですが、アキャブ飛行場は前述の通り使用不能ですから、チッタゴンからLRCAPしていたのだと思います。この迎撃でsweepの二式戦が6機、護衛の二式戦が4機、九六陸攻も2機撃墜されてしまいました。CAPのP-40K Warhawkには14機、Hurricane IIc Trop 2機の損失が報告されていますから、連合軍側の望んだほどの戦果ではなかったものと思います。
昨日予想していたRoi-Namurへの艦砲射撃ですが、夜のフェーズにはありませんでした。変だなと思いながら、いろいろ細かなやり取りのアニメーションを見ていたところ、午後になって本日のメインイベント、米軍機動部隊によるマーシャル諸島空襲がありました。連合軍の作戦は日本側の想像をはるかに上回っていました。まずは53機のF4F-4 Wildcatの護衛で85機のSBD-3 Dauntlesと30機のTBF-1 AvengerがRoi-Namurの飛行場を爆撃。地上で九六陸攻が2機破壊され、Airbase hits 7、Airbase supply hits 5、Runway hits 33により、飛行場のサービス施設に42、滑走路に66ダメージが残りました。
ついで、82機のSBD-3 Dauntlessと45機のTBF-1 Avengerによるクエゼリン港爆撃。規模4の飛行場のあるRoi-Namurには護衛戦闘機がついて飛行場爆撃、港の規模の大きなクエゼリンには護衛戦闘機なしで港湾爆撃と、連合軍側も心得たもの。この爆撃により、AS Jingei(VP 20, tonnage 5160)、xAK Uji Maru(VP 4, tonnage 2375)、xAKL Kayo Maru(VP 3, tonnage 1650)、AMc Hagoromo Maru(VP 1, tonnage 215)、SSX Ha-5(VP 4, tonnage 46)、SSX Ha-6の6隻が沈没し、AKE Pshc MaruとACM Daido Maruにも500ポンド爆弾が1発ずつ命中して大破してしまいました。貨物船はクエゼリンに大きめのコンボイで輸送してきたサプライを、マーシャル諸島の他の島々に配給する小さなものだけしかいなかったのでまあいいとして、ASが撃沈されたのはかなり痛い。またSSXは以前お試しで使ってみた時に召喚したものの残りで、クエゼリンにあること自体忘れていました。SSXを召喚するといっぺんに4隻出現しちゃうんですが、つかわななかった残りはすぐに返却する習慣を付けないとだめですね。
いまのところ後続する上陸船団は発見されていませんが、今回の空襲が上陸作戦の前触れなのかどうかはあと1－2日すれば判明するでしょう。もしすぐには上陸作戦がなかったとしても、準備が整えばいつでも上陸作戦を決行できる自信を連合軍側は得たことでしょう。事前に戦闘機を派遣しておいたり、対抗して機動部隊を出撃させたりなど、抵抗策がないわけではありません。でも、マーシャル諸島には相互に支援しあう飛行場を確保しにくいし、また九九艦爆から彗星への機種転換中(赤城・加賀の艦爆隊のみ済み)の機動部隊もまだ動かしたくないし、ここのところはなすがままにするつもりです。Roi-Namurに戦闘機がいないことを発見して、何も心配することがないと気付いた米軍はもしかするともう一日空襲してくるのかも。
今日のリプレイを見終わってから気付いたのですが、Roi-Namurの九六陸攻も、クエゼリンの二式大艇・九七艦攻も、インフォメーションウインドウ(攻撃指示を与えるウインドウ)のUsing torpedoesが赤い文字で表示されています。つまり雷撃できないってことです。昨日は雷撃可能を示す黄色い文字でしたし、Roi-NamurのAir HQは魚雷を80本在庫しています。Roi-Namur飛行場のサービス施設に42、滑走路に66のダメージがありますが、これが効いているってことでしょうか？今まで連合軍の侵攻を受けるような時期までプレイしたことがなく、こういうのは初めての経験です。飛行場に被害のないクエゼリンの二式大艇まで雷撃不能になっているということは、ある一定以上のダメージが飛行場に残っている根拠地にいるAir HQは、雷撃を可能にするサービスができないっていう仕様なんでしょうね、きっと。マニュアルで読んだ覚えはないのですが。ともあれ、ダメージを受けているヘクスだけではなく、周囲のヘクスにも影響が及ぶという重要事項を学ぶことができただけは、今日のマーシャル空襲の収穫でした。
