昭和18年も3月になりました。きょうはまず、サンフランシスコはるか南東沖で、I-2がEuro Cargo級(tonnage 4220) xAK Itola(VP 8)のを雷撃して沈めました。護衛がついていないのでこちらの被害はなし。こちらの気づいていない航路があって、重要な艦船と護衛の艦艇はそちらにまとめて投入されているのかも。
夜間爆撃ですが、日本側はVanikoroを空襲。Ki-49-IIa Helen 27機からなる飛行隊二つにこの任務を設定しているのですが、部隊のいるツラギがまだ規模3なためか10機しか飛んでくれず、Runaway hits 1だけでした。こちら方面にくることが分かっていたら、ツラギ飛行場は事前に規模4にまで拡張しておくのでした。現在急いで拡張中です。
連合軍は、ラングーンとポートモレスビーに夜間の定期便。設定を変えたせいか、昨晩はラングーンにCAPが飛んでくれました。地上でKi-44-IIa Tojoが1機破壊され、 Airbase hits 2とRunway hits 15の被害でした。この程度なら、engineerが修理できる範囲内です。ポートモレスビーでは、CAPを見て逃げ帰った爆撃機もいました。爆弾を投下できたのは12機なのですが、地上で3機も破壊されました。地上での破壊がとてもつらい。
Santa Cruz諸島のVanikoroには引き続き増援が送られて来ています。ルンガのG4M1 Bettyが雷撃して、今日はLST Type-II級(tonnage 1625)のLST-448(VP 3)を沈めました。まだ船から降ろしている途中だったようで、201名の死傷者が報告されています。このLSTのCargo Capacityは1750ですが、実際にどれくらいの兵員を乗せていたのか。全員が死傷した訳ではないでしょうけど、内訳は、Squadsが0で、Non CombatとEngineersとVehiclesだけの被害なので、Seebeeのような建設部隊と思われます。こういう部隊を送り込んで来ているということは、Vanikoroの飛行場を拡張して、爆撃でルンガとツラギを無力化するつもりなんでしょうね。
