遊びをせんとや: 死在柳州

昭和17年12月19日、稚内にリソースを輸送した帰りのコンボイが宗谷海峡でSS S-46に襲撃され、xAKL Hinode Maru(VP 3, tonnage 1900)が撃沈されました。ついでウエーク島に飛行場整備部隊を輸送していたコンボイがSS Growlerが襲撃され、xAKL Natsukawa Maru(VP 3, tonnage 2050)に魚雷が一本命中し、火災が発生しました。昼のフェーズになってから沈没してしまいましたが、整備部隊は数隻に分乗していたのと、沈没までに余裕があったからか、squad2分隊が失われただけで済みました。

昨日はお休みだった連合軍の夜間空襲ですが、今日はカルカッタから7波51機(Liberator II 6、B-17E Fortress 9、B-24D Liberator 17、B-25C Mitchell 19)がメイクテーラに来襲しました。二式戦(Ki-44-IIa Tojo) 19機が迎撃しましたが、二式戦側が2機撃墜されOps lossを2機出したのに対して、連合軍爆撃機は3機がOps lossになっただけでした。爆撃でAirbase hits 7、Runway hits 44の命中弾がありましたが、メイクテーラ飛行場の状況を見てみるとサービス施設ダメージ 14、滑走路ダメージ14と思ったより少なくて驚きました。メイクテーラ飛行場は規模7ある大きめの飛行場なので、多数の命中弾があってもこの程度で済んだのかもしれません。ただ問題なのは駐機中の機体の破壊で、二式戦 8機、百式重爆 10機、百式司偵 2機が全壊です。CAPを維持するために二式戦は常に配備しておかなければなりませんが、夜間空襲解禁中、百式重爆をこのあたりに配置しておくのは避けるべきなんでしょうね。

昨日は日本側もメイクテーラから百式重爆30機がインパールの夜間空襲に向かいましたが、CAPのいない飛行場を30機で爆撃して、Airbase hits 1、Runway hits 1という情けない戦果しかあげられませんでした。対空砲火が激しく2機撃墜され2機がOps lossなったことや、高度9000フィート(連合軍のメイクテーラ爆撃は7000フィート)と高空からの爆撃だったことが、原因だと思われます。いずれにせよ、こう貧弱な戦果しか期待できないようでは、ますます前線に爆撃機を配備しておくことがばかばかしく感じられます。

陸戦フェーズでは今日も中国の柳州で中国軍のshock attackがありました。オッズ比262対1となって、残っていた第23軍HQと戦車第一師団の2部隊が全滅してしまいました。結局、12月2日以来の柳州会戦で、柳州にいた2個師団、1個戦車師団、3個連隊、1個旅団、1個歩兵団、軍司令部のすべてが全滅してしまったわけです。なぜ一部隊も撤退しなかった・撤退できなかったのかはとても不思議ですし、悔いが残ります。食は広州にあり(食在広州)という言葉がありますが、これは「生在蘇州、穿在杭州、食在広州、死在柳州」という慣用表現の一部なのだそうです。日本陸軍の指揮官たちも「死在柳州」を知っていて、実践してしまったとでも考えるしかないのかもしれません。ところでこの柳州殲滅戦の結果を見て、同じような境遇にある桂林も心配になってきてしまいました。桂林は長沙と柳州をつなぐ鉄道線上にあるので戦略移動を邪魔するために占拠し続けたいところです。桂林は南東のヘクスに日本のユニットしかいないから、そこへ撤退できないなんてことはないですよね。
