昭和17年12月8日、Meraukeに派遣したCL神通・川内ですが、Meraukeのヘクスに到着して水上戦闘のアイコンが一瞬表示されたのですが、その後に戦闘はおきませんでした。連合軍側はすでにCLとxAPを避難させていて、MeraukeのヘクスにはHorn Islandから移動してきたPTボートしかいません。Moonlight 3%と暗い夜ですから、あえてPTボートと戦うようなことはせず帰還したのはいい判断だと思います。
待避していった連合軍TFはMeraukeでの陸揚げに2日間あてることができ、輸送していた部隊の大部分を揚陸できたのではないかと思います。今日のマップではMeraukeに戦闘機が配備されていました。このまま増強されるとニューギニア島北岸のホーランディアが圧迫されることになりますが、 戦闘機がいると爆撃は難しくなるし、PTボートがいると主力艦を投入しての艦砲射撃はためらわれるし、困ったものです。連合軍の稼働空母数が減ったことで西太平洋への上陸侵攻はしばらく心配しなくてもよくなりました。かわりに、ニューギニア島の地上部隊を地道に西進させたり、基地機の傘のもとでニューギニアから蘭印に向けて短距離の上陸を繰り返すようなことをして来るつもりなのでしょう。
ウエーク島には機動部隊から艦攻40機と艦爆22機が飛行場爆撃に向かいました。TrackerではF4F-4 Wildcatが地上で7機破壊されたと報告されていました。それはそれで良かったのですが、Airbase hits 1、Airbase supply hits 1、Runway hits 2というコンバットリポートの数字をみてあきれてしまいました。艦爆隊も艦攻隊も空母艦載機ですから、パイロットもそれなりに優秀な人を揃えてあるつもりです。艦攻隊は9000フィートからの爆撃でしたが、艦爆隊は急降下爆撃を実施しました。目標までの距離も4ヘクスしかないし、艦船と違って回避行動をとるわけでもない飛行場に62機で爆撃して、合計で4発しか爆弾が命中しないものなんですかね。Heavy rainのせいなのでしょうか？？また、Roi-Namurにいる九六陸攻・一式陸攻にもウエーク島爆撃を指示してありましたが、こちらは飛んでくれませんでした。そんなこんなでCVホーネットはじめウエーク島にいる連合軍艦船にフィニッシュを決めることができずイライラ。陸戦隊を載せたTFはウエーク島に接近してきているので、支援部隊の合流を待たず早めに上陸してしまおうかと思っています。
中国では、昨日お休みだった柳州での中国軍の攻勢が再開されました。オッズ比5対1で防衛できましたが、やはりdeviceの被害は日本側がずっと多い状態です。早晩、すりつぶされてしまうでしょう。柳州はあきらめて、森林ヘクスに防衛戦をはるために援軍を向かわせています。
潜水艦との戦いですが、マラッカ海峡でxAK Kaiko Maru(VP 7, tonnage 3675)がSS Trustyに雷撃され沈没。そして宗谷海峡でxAK Kisogawa Maru(VP 4, tonnage 2375)がSS S-47に雷撃され沈没しました。ほかにも攻撃されたコンボイがあり、珍しい光景を目にしたので紹介します。ラングーンでサプライを揚陸し、シンガポールに戻る途中のコンボイがSS KVIIに攻撃されました。護衛のPB Okiyu Maruが反撃して命中(?)した爆雷はありませんでしたが、ニアミスで出火したと表示されました。その後、炎は発令所で燃え広がり、大きなダメージになったとのことでした。ASW戦闘のアニメはきちんとみているつもりですが、ニアミスが大きな被害につながったというのは記憶にありません。
