柳州で苦戦中

昭和17年12月4日、前日の激しい空母戦のその後がどうなるのか気になったリプレイでしたが、こちらの希望していた展開にはなりませんでした。連合軍は空襲で傷ついた空母を全速力で退避させるだろう、逃げるとすれば日本側から離れる方向、つまり北東だろうと予想していました。損傷艦は最高速度が低下するので、昨日の被害の様子なら、ふつうにmission speedで航海しても追いつくだろうと考えて、BB武蔵、榛名、霧島の追撃部隊をウエーク島の北東に向かわせました。しかし連合軍空母の損傷はこちらの予想より悪かったようで、全艦まとめてウエーク島のヘクスに逃げ込んでしまい、会敵はなりませんでした。

かわりに昼のフェーズで連合軍機動部隊またはウエーク島からF4F-4 Wildcat 33機に護衛されたSBD-3 Dauntless 23機の空襲がありました。BB霧島に爆弾1発が命中しましたが、前日にSys 1, Flt 0, Eng 1だったのが、今日もSys 1, Flt 0, Eng 1で、まったく損傷を受けませんでした。空から1000ポンドのものが落ちてきても、無損傷というのは考えにくいのですが、砲塔天蓋に当たって跳ね返したっていう感じなんでしょうか。コンバットリポートにはこのBB霧島に加えて武蔵の名前も載せられていました。連合軍側も金剛級BCがいることは承知だったと思いますが、武蔵も一緒に来ていることがばれてしまいました。

今日の沈没艦リストにはCVホーネットとCVE Nassauの二艦が加わっていて、二艦ともウエーク島のヘクスで沈没したことになっています。でもこれは信用できません。今日のマップのウエーク島にはイカリのアイコンがついていて、港内で2隻(艦種は不明)目撃されたと偵察機が報告しています。前日はウエーク島のヘクスにイカリのアイコンもTFのアイコンもありませんでした。今日のリプレイ直後に2隻が存在しているということは、Escort TFに編成されていた2隻がauto-disbandしたんだと考えるのが自然です。Escort TFは遠くの目的地を設定しても、損傷がひどいと近くの港に勝手にdisbandしようとしますからね。また連合軍としては今日も撤退中に日本の機動部隊からの空襲を予想したんだと思います。空母からのCAPだけでは心配で、ウエーク島の飛行場からのCAPを利用できるように、ウエーク島のヘクスに移動して日本側の出方をうかがったんだと思います。

戦艦の追撃部隊にウエーク島のヘクスを通過するように指示してあれば、すでに水上戦闘がおこっていたところでした。昨日、指示する際にそれも考えたのですが、ためらってしまいました。それはなぜかというと、連合軍がウエーク島にPTボートを召喚するだろうと考えたからです。マニュアルの6.2.16 CREATING PT BOATS, MOTOR GUNBOATS, MIDGET SUBS AND BARGESに大発とPTボートの召喚できるのはサプライを搭載したTFと、

現在の港の規模1以上でサプライが10000トン以上ある根拠地

と書かれています。ウエークのサプライ備蓄量が10000トン未満だとは思えないし、港の規模が1ありますから、ウエーク島への艦砲射撃対策としても有効だし、私ならPTボートを召喚すると思ったのです。昨晩から今日にかけてのmoonlightは7%でしたから、暗夜の沿岸ヘクスは戦艦など主力艦よりPTボートの方がずっと有利に戦えます。そう考えて、ウエーク島のヘクスは通過しないよう(いちおうMaxReact 1にしてあったので、見敵必戦で突っ込む可能性はあった)に設定したのでした。われながら本当にチキンで、まったく軍人向きではないです。

これからどうするかですが、このままウエーク島のヘクスに立て籠もられて、ウエーク島の飛行場の修復が進むと連合軍側がどんどん有利になってしまいます。戦艦部隊がこのへんでパトロールして連合軍の後退を許さず、本土からの増援を待つというのもあるかもしれません。でも、このあたりは日本本土とハワイの中間あたりなので、米軍の水上艦隊がやってきてしまう可能性があります。昨日の空母戦に参加していない連合軍の空母も気になります。もしかするとCVサラトガの昭和17年9月に沈没報告が誤っていて、空母機動部隊が来る可能性も完全には否定できません。CVイラストリアスの所在も不明ですし、時は連合軍の味方。仕方がないので、昨日は避けたウエーク島ヘクスへの殴り込みを追撃部隊に指示しました。昨日の時点ではPTボートを召喚していなかった(今日のマップ上にはPTボートの存在が報告されていません)連合軍も、今日は召喚するでしょうきっと。今晩はmoonlight 0%なので、楽しいことになりそうです。主力艦が沈められなければいいのですが、とても心配。

またいったん南西に後退していた機動部隊にはウエーク島への接近を指示しました。飛行機を運用できないほど大きなダメージのあるCV翔鶴に加え、CV加賀とCVE大鷹も戦闘速度を発揮すると浸水被害が増えそうな気がするので、トラックに向けて退避させました。艦載機は昨日の戦闘でかなりダメージを受けていて、まだ修理の完了していない機体がたくさんあります。CV赤城・瑞鶴・飛龍の3艦で飛行可能なのはゼロ戦 60機(修理中 12機)、九九艦爆 19機(8機)、九七艦攻 21機(3機)しかありません。これだけの戦力で戦闘機が135機もいるというウエーク島に空襲するのは心許ないので、トラックからゼロ戦30機と九七艦攻30機を3空母に派遣しました。これでも不足かも。あと、艦戦隊はどれも疲れてはいてもmorale 90台です。しかし一日休養をとらせても、艦爆隊・艦攻隊はmoraleがよくて80台、赤城艦爆隊なんかはmorale 54です。まあ、連合軍の飛行隊の方がmoraleの低下はひどいと信じて行くしかないですね。

中国では漢口にP-38G Lightning 25機がsweepにやってきました。中国でsweepされるのは何ヶ月ぶりだろう。一式戦(Ki-43-Ic Oscar)がCAPしていましたが、8機が撃墜され、1機がOps lossになりました。TrackerによるとP-38G Lightningは3機が撃墜されたとなっています。1対3はかなり悪いスコアですが、P-38Gとの1対3の交換なら歓迎したいところ。一式戦のパイロットはKIA 1名、WIA 4名ですが、P-38GのパイロットはKIA 3名でしょうし、悪くない取引です。ただ、もう少しレートを改善したいし、moraleが77まで低下してしまったこの一式戦の部隊は休養させ、その間を利用して二式戦に機種転換させることにしました。

そして、昨日も陸戦のあった柳州で、今日も中国軍の攻勢がありました。素のAVが1660対7774、修正AVが1488対573、オッズ比2対1でからくも撃退に成功しました。しかし昨日と同様に破壊されたdeviceは日本側の方が多く、死傷者数も中国側6155名に対して日本側8605名と日本側の方が多くなってしまっています。明日shock attackでもされたら敗退は避けられないかなと感じます。森林ヘクスでないと兵力の少ない側が守るのは難しい。どうも、部隊を多数転進させた以前のこちらの策がまずかった。
