昭和17年12月24日、ビルマ戦線ではカルカッタからラングーンに四発機34機が(Liberator II 3、B-17E Fortress 7、B-24D Liberator 24)来襲しました。ラングーンへの夜間空襲は記憶になく、連合軍としてはもしかしたらCAPがいないかもと期待してやってきたのかも知れませんが、二式戦(Ki-44-IIa Tojo) 19機が応対しました。クリスマスイブだというのに出撃を命じられてやる気がなかったのか、カルカッタ・ラングーン間は距離16ヘクスと遠いからなのか分かりませんが、Airbase supply hits 1、Runway hits 2と爆撃の被害はごくわずかでした。でも空戦では二式戦 7機が撃墜され、Ops lossも1機と散々でした。
陸戦フェーズではニューギニア東部のNadzabで連合軍の攻撃がありました。日本側は敗北続きの部隊の寄せ集めでサプライも底をついている状態なのに対し、米軍は2個師団と戦車2個大隊基幹の大軍。素のAVが896対132、修正AV637対69と大きな差があり、急ごしらえのfortificationが2ありましたが、オッズ比9対1で占領されてしまいました。日本側の部隊は北東ではなくマダンに近い方の海岸のヘクスに撤退しました。こちらに撤退したということは、マダンから細々とサプライが輸送されていたということのようです。
連合軍はこの後もニューギニア島北岸を西進してくるだろうと推定しています。マダンもウエワクもアイタペもホーランディアも、空挺部隊による奇襲占領を防げる程度のわずかな地上部隊しか駐屯していません。Nadzabからホーランディアまで11ヘクスはジャングル6.5ヘクス、沼沢地2ヘクス、二級道路が2.5ヘクス。歩兵は12時間に、ジャングルヘクスで5マイル、沼沢地は3マイル、二級道路は15ヘクスを移動できるので、だいたい49日(=6.5*46/(2*5)+2*46/(2*3)+2.5*46/(2*15))あまりでホーランディアまで歩けるということでしょうか。計算合ってるかな？米軍とはいえサプライが充分に輸送されるとは限らないことから、ジャングルやマラリアによる疲労で進軍は遅くなるでしょう。また途中で数回戦闘することを考えると、もう少し長く2ヶ月くらいかかるかも知れませんが、昭和18年2月末には到着するのでしょう。
ホーランディアはもうしばらく確保しておきたい気がしますが、増援を送るべきでしょうか。ウエワクやアイタペは無理でもホーランディアナらなら輸送船団を派遣しても全滅ということにはならないかなと思われます。でも送り込むなら一個師団は向かわせないと意味がなさそうです。昨日のエントリーではニューギニアへの増援は不要か記しましたが、こうなってみると迷うところです。それともやはり放置しておくべきかな。
