昭和17年12月17日は、Moonlight 70%より明るい晩だけに夜間空襲を制限したHR改訂後、初めての夜間空襲解禁日だったので、夜間空襲の応酬がみられました。ビルマでは中部のTaung Gyiに7波60機(Liberator II 7、B-17E Fortress 14、B-24D Liberator 20、B-25C Mitchell 19)がやってきました。二式複戦(Ki-45 KAIa Nick) 6機がCAPに上がっていましたが、Airbase hits 20、Airbase supply hits 3、Runway hits 29に加えて、CAPが2機と地上での破壊が42機という連合軍にとっては大漁の晩でした。
日本側は中国で漢口から重慶に7波75機(Ki-21-IIa Sally 39、Ki-49-IIa Helen 26)で空襲を行い、Airbase hits 7、Airbase supply hits 1、Runway hits 13と地上で4機を破壊の戦果をあげました。ついでChihkiang(懐化)に6波41機(Ki-21-IIa Sally 21、Ki-49-IIa Helen 20)で空襲を実施しました。懐化という何の変哲もない小都市を空襲したのは、前日に柳州上空でLRCAPをしていたP-38Gが地上にいるだろうと思ったからです。Airbase hits 1、Runway hits 11のの命中弾を得ましたが、P-38Gは1機を地上で破壊できただけでした。
わずか6機とはいえCAPのいたTaung Gyiを狙った連合軍側が60機で命中弾52を記録したのに対して、重慶には75機で21発、懐化には41機で12発の命中と、かなり少ない命中数です。これは、重慶までだと百式重爆は250kg爆弾を4つ、九七「重爆」はわずか2個しか搭載できないのに対して、連合軍のホンモノの重爆はカルカッタからビルマ中部まででも500ポンド爆弾を8-10個、中型のB-25C Mitchellでも3個搭載できますから、その差が大きく響いているんだと思われます。
また、地上での破壊機数の大きな差は、昨晩地上に駐機していた飛行機の数の違いが影響しているだろうと思います。重慶でも20数機、懐化は10数機だったろうと推測しますが、Taung Gyiには100機以上が駐機していましたから。Taung Gyiにいた機体のうち、昼間のCAPを指示してあった二式戦の部隊が夜間空襲の被害を受けたのはやむを得なかったと思います。しかし、百式重爆が地上で破壊されることになったのは計算外でした。夜間空襲解禁の晩、空襲の予想される飛行場に駐機しておくのが危険なことは私も承知していて、Tang Gyi配備の百式重爆の部隊3つすべてに、インド国内のディマプール飛行場への夜間空襲を指示してありました。しかしこの空襲は実現せず、地上で撃破されてしまったわけです。それで気になるのは、昨日は迷子になった爆撃機がとても多かったことです。

と一晩でこんなにたくさんで驚きますが、Tang Gyi配備の百式重爆の部隊は出撃して引き返すことになったみたいです。重慶や懐化を目標としていた部隊も大いに迷ったようですが、なんとか辿り着いて爆撃できました。ストレートに目的地に到達するのと、迷いながら目的地に到達するのとでは、爆撃の成果に差があるのでしょうか。これだけ多いと、こういう細かなことでも気になってしまいますが、残念ながらフォーラムでこれに触れた議論を読んだ記憶はありません。
豊原の南東でSC Ch 38がSS S-47を探知し、爆雷を2発命中させました。2発とも船殻に亀裂を生じ内部で爆発が起きたと表示され、SS S-47は浮上を余儀なくされました。これまで、機雷以外による連合軍潜水艦の撃沈はなく、浮上したSS S-47にも砲撃が加えられるのをみながら、今日は沈没の確認戦果をあげられるだろうと期待しました。ところが、沈没音なしにコンバットアニメは終了。砲撃まで浴びせたのに逃げられてしまったりすることもあるんでしょうかね。
連日苦戦の柳州ですが、今日も中国軍のshock attackがありました。日本側はもうぼろぼろで、オッズ比4対1の劣勢で1205名の死傷者がでました。しかしこれでも撤退してくれないんです。ボロボロの状態でも撤退してくれればじっくり再建することができますが、踏みとどまって部隊がdestroedになってしまうと、PPを支払って召喚しない限りその部隊は消滅したままです。このゲームには死守命令がないことも問題かも知れませんが、死守禁止命令のないことも問題だなと感じてしまいました。
