昭和17年8月19日、メダンからシンガポールまで原油を輸送していたコンボイが、マラッカ海峡で連合軍の潜水艦 Snapper を発見しました。護衛のPB Ryuto Maruだけでなく、12隻いたタンカーのうち4隻もSS Snapperに向けて発砲しました。SS Snapperも魚雷と砲撃で反撃してきたため、TK Yamazuru MaruとTK Toen Maruが沈没してしまいました。このコンボイのタンカーはすべて積載量1250トンのType-1 TS級だったので、小さな被害といえば小さいのですが。一方、SS Snapperにも砲弾が4発命中してheavy damageと報告されていますが、沈没音は聞かれませんでした。潜水艦とコンボイの戦闘で複数の艦船が沈むのはこれが初めての経験だと思います。なぜこんなことになったか理由を考えてみると、
- 潜水艦からではなくコンボイの側から手を出したこと
- 潜水艦の側が最後まで潜航せず、浮上して戦ったこと
の2点があげられると思います。そしてなぜ潜航しなかったかですが、SS Snapperは2日前にシンガポールのヘクスで機雷に接触したという報告がありました。おそらくダメージが大きく潜航できない状態で、コロンボまで帰る途中だったのでしょう。それにしても、潜水艦対コンボイの戦闘ではたかだか一隻が沈められるだけだとばかり思っていたので、手負いの潜水艦に2隻も沈められるとは。発砲したタンカーのうち沈まなかった2隻のexpは25/25 → 55/25、43/25 → 56/25と急増していますが、反撃で沈没してしまう危険があるなら発砲して欲しくないものです。それとも、自衛のために発砲しないと、ただ沈められてしまうだけなのかな。

日本の潜水艦はこのところさっぱりです。今日はたまたまシドニー東にいたI-7が西に向かう連合軍TFを2つ目撃しました。ご覧の通り、2つのTF合計で空母3隻が視認されています。日本の空母や軍艦を多数沈めてシドニーに凱旋の途中なのでしょう。ソロモン諸島方面でも少なくとも一週間くらいは空母の心配をせずに活動できそうです。
先日、ポートブレアの意味というエントリーを書きましたが、書きながらポートブレアの重要性を再認識しました。これまでは第84海軍防備隊(AV 60)が守備していましたが、連合軍に簡単に取り戻されないため、ビルマにいた113聯隊(AV 126)を移動させました。守備隊の人数が6387名とかなり増えたので、シンガポールからサプライを輸送しています。今日、ポートブレアで揚陸中のTFをチェックしてみたところ、積荷の数字の色がオレンジ色になっていることを発見してびっくり。このゲームでは積荷の量を示す数字が白色だとサプライ、オレンジ色だろリソースを意味します。昨日まではサプライを降ろしていたはずなのに、もしかしてバグ？かとも一瞬思いました。
そこでこのTFの履歴を調べてみると、ご覧のとおり、サプライとリソースを混載していたのでした。いつもは、何を積載しているのかわからなくなってしまわないよう、貨物船にはサプライかリソースのどちらか一方だけを積載する方針をとています。このxAK Iburi Maruはシンガポールでリソースを降ろしている途中、まだリソースが船倉に残っている状態でサプライの積載を始めてしまったようです。バグではありませんでした。
ポートブレアに到着して荷下ろしを始めましたが、サプライから降ろしています。混載した貨物のうちサプライが優先して降ろされる仕様でしょうか？それとも後入れ先出しなんでしょうか？また、Amphibious TFとCargo TFとで降ろす順序が違ったりするのでしょうか？私は混載の経験がないので不明ですし、フォーラムでもこの件について情報に接した記憶がありません。
