昭和17年8月6日、ルーガンビルは連合軍のShock Attackで陥落しました。連合軍2個師団プラス戦車旅団などなどに対して2個特別陸戦隊の対決ですから敗北はやむを得ません。でも、修正AVが573対97、オッズ比5対1(fort level 3)。攻撃側が勝利するにはfortレベル+2以上のオッズ比が必要なので、運がよければ数ターンがんばれた可能性も少しはあったわけで、その点は少し残念です。今日の結果は今後の島嶼戦での防衛所要兵力の見積もりに役立てたいと思います。さて、ルーガンビルの戦いはこれまでいいところが一つもなかったのですが、今日は最後にI-166が奮起しました。ルーガンビルのヘクスで上陸船団を護衛していたBB Coroladoを雷撃し、魚雷を3本命中させたのです。期待の沈没音は聴かれませんでしたが。
ビルマでは空戦が続いています。Magweからチッタゴンに二式戦でsweepをかけ、今日は25対6くらいのスコアとなりました。よい戦果を残せたのは、チッタゴンのCAPの数が少なかったからです。インドの連合軍機も払底しつつあるのかと思ったのですがそうではありませんでした。ここ数ターン、モールメンからアキャブに爆撃を続けていました。漫然と同じ事をくり返している日本側をあっといわせるため、今日の連合軍はチッタゴンからアキャブ上空にLRCAPを派遣していたのでした。ゼロ戦(A6M3b Zero)14機と一式戦(Ki-43-Ic Oscar)6機しか護衛についていなかったのに対して、 Hurricane IIb Trop 5機、Hurricane IIc Trop 12機、P-38E Lightning 11機、P-40E 7機とCAPの方が多数でした。護衛対CAPのハンディキャップと数的劣勢とで、ゼロ戦11機、一式戦4機
百式重爆8機の損失と大敗を喫してしまいました。コンバットリポートによるとHurricane IIb TropとP-40E Warhawkを1機ずつ撃墜していて、もしかするともう何機かOps lossになったかもしれませんが、惨敗には違いありません。PBEMでは漫然と同じことを繰り返してはいけないという教訓を再認識させられた一日でした。
