昭和17年8月18日、ポートモレスビーとブナから13機のB-25C Mitchellと23機のB-26B Marauderがラバウルにやってきました。日本側の42機のCAPが14機を撃墜し、対空砲も3機を撃墜しました。TrackerによるとOps lossをあわせて合計で19機の損失となったようです。双発爆撃機が護衛戦闘機なしでやってきたのですから、36機中19機の損害は連合軍も折り込み済みなのでしょう。四発爆撃機と違って、双発爆撃機は迎撃による被害が大きいと投弾せずに引き返すこともあります。しかし来襲7分前の探知で爆弾投下前に接触できた戦闘機が少なかったためか、30機で合計90発の500ポンド爆弾を高度1000フィートから投下しました。先日のB-17の7000フィートからの爆撃とは違って、低空爆撃は命中率がとても高かった！
CVL祥鳳に6発命中し沈没してしまいました。昨日の時点でSys 74, Flt 68, Eng 46だったので、出港させても航海中に沈没する可能性が高く、やむを得ないところ。航海中の沈没で命を落とすことがなく、電子の乗組員たちには感謝してもらえたかもしれません。CA最上にも500ポンド爆弾が3発命中しました。昨日はSys 38, Flt 49, Eng 11でしたがSys 49, Flt 47, Eng 11とSysダメージが11上昇しました。最上の方は可能なら避難させるつもりですが、ボイラーに火がはいるまで3日かかるので間に合わないかもしれません。
B-25C MitchellもB-26B MarauderもDurability 42, Armor 1の双発爆撃機で、Gun Valueがそれぞれ18，16です。日本側でこれに当たる機種はKi-49-IIa Hellen(百式重爆)でDurability 40, Armor 1, Gun Value 15です。大きな違いは爆弾搭載量で、B-25CとB-26Bは4トン、Ki-49-IIaは2.2トンです。3機種のスペックはかなり似ていますが、同じような状況が生まれたとき、はたして40機のKi-49-IIa Hellenを護衛なしでCAPが40機もいる連合軍根拠地に送って、なにか戦果を挙げることができるでしょうか？それとも爆弾搭載量が段違いに少なく防御機銃も手薄なので、撃墜されなかった機も爆弾を落とさずに引き返してくることになってしまうのでしょうか？
