鳳翔に魚雷2本命中



昭和17年6月24日、セイロン島の東沖でCVL鳳翔がツリンコマリーからの空襲を受けました。レーダーを装備している艦がTFの中にはなく、空襲の6分前に目視で接近を探知しました。CAPのA6M2 Zero 5機が迎撃しましたが、16機ものHurricane I Tropが護衛していたので、Beaufort Iの雷撃を妨害することはできなかったようです。連合軍のTBは足の短いものばかりなので、この位置で雷撃されるとは思ってもみませんでした。でも考えてみれば一式陸攻もLBに分類されているわけで、LBのBeaufort Iが雷装できても不思議はないですよね。調べてみるとBeaufort Iのnormal radius=雷撃可能な距離は7ヘクスもあります。Beaufort Iの魚雷は2本が命中して、コンバットリポートにはheavy damageだけではなく、
Massive explosion on CVE Hosho
というおそろしい文章も載せられていました。ダメコンのだめだめな日本艦にこのMassive explosionなんていうフレーズが表示されるとたいていはそのままお亡くなりになってしまうものというのがフォーラムでの定評です。2本の魚雷を受けながら、まだ浮いているのが不思議な気がします。鳳翔は日本の空母のお母さんなので、母の意地で浮いているのかも知れません。ダメージをうけた鳳翔は一隻の駆逐艦とともに自動的にEscort TFを組むことになり、”3rd Ku S-1 Det B planes diverting to Port Blair”ということなので、着艦できなくなってしまったCAPのA6M2はPort Blairに緊急着陸したようです。
このEscort TFについては、BB's Survive Trip to West Coast?という最近のスレで開発チームの一員のDonさんがコメントしていたので紹介します。スレ自体は、真珠湾攻撃で損傷した戦艦を修理のために西海岸まで移動させる時、どんな状態なら安全確実か?というものです。
海上でのダメージを増加させないようにという点だけに着目すると、損傷した艦船をEscort TFに組み入れる利点は実際のところないものと思う。戦闘に巻き込まれやすく、ダメージがさらに増加してしまう可能性のある種類のTFもあるが、そうでない種類のTFがEscort TF以外にもある。もっとも役立つのはCruise Speedの利用だ。AEでは3種類の速度の設定ができる。Cruise Speedに設定すると、つねにcruise speedで航行する。水上戦闘に巻き込まれない限りcruise speedを保ち、水上戦闘に巻き込まれてしまった時にはmisshion speedに増速する(ただし、即座にではない)。Full speedに設定すると、フルスピードで航行する(フルスピードを出せない状態にならない限り)。Mission speedの設定では、フルスピードに増速する必要がなければ、cruise speedで航海する。つまり、その艦船はつねに増速のための準備(すべてのボイラーが焚かれているなど)ができているということを意味し、海上でsysダメージが増加する可能性が高くなっている。mission speedで航行しているTFは戦闘に対してうまく対応できるし、必要なら戦闘を避けることのできる可能性も高い。プレイテストの過程で、速度の設定にはいくつかの変更(特に戦闘時の仕様)が加えられた。理にかなった変更(自分が射たれていることが分かったら速度を上げるなど)ではあったが、三つの速度設定の違いがはっきりしなくなった感はある。私のおすすめは、特別な理由がない限りはMIssion speedにしろ、ということだ。燃料が不足しているか、艦船のダメージがひどい時には、Cruise speedをつかえ。Fill speedは追われて逃げている時、または追いつこうとしている時にのみつかえ。
なのだそうです。セイロン島から傷ついた鳳翔を狙って水上艦隊が出撃してくる可能性を考えると、かならずしもEscort TFが最適とはいえないのかも知れませんね。いちおう、Escort TFに編成された以外の駆逐艦とCL大井を水上戦闘TFに編成して、鳳翔のTFをフォローさせる設定にし、送りオオカミが来たら迎撃できるようにしてみました。とはいっても、いちばん近いPort Blairまででも距離20ヘクスあります。Sysが29なので、まったく生還の望みがないというわけではないでしょうが、かなり微妙なのはたしかですね。
先日のエントリーで、6月19日にホーランディアの一式陸攻がポートモレスビーの艦船攻撃に向かって大被害を出したことを紹介しました。その日、一式陸攻にはPort Blairの連合軍艦船を攻撃してほしかったのですが、指揮官の判断で大惨事につながってしまいました。あれから5日経ってもまだPort Blairには連合軍艦船が停泊しています。Port Blairの港の規模は小さいので、上陸させた部隊を乗船させるのに手間取っているのかなと。今日はホーランディアから一式戦がsweepし、その後、A6M3bの護衛で一式陸攻が雷撃に向かい、いちおうかたちとしては先日思い描いていたものが実現しました。ただ、問題点が多過ぎ。まず、一式陸攻が6機しか飛んでくれなかったこと。いくらホーランディアの飛行場の規模が3しかないとはいっても、すでにmoraleは99にまで回復しているし、27機中6機しか攻撃にいってくれないというのは根性なさ過ぎです。あの6月19日には11機飛んでくれたのに。あと、6機の一式陸攻が停泊中のxAKLを雷撃したのに一本も魚雷が命中しなかったこと。5機のBeaufort Iが広いインド洋で回避行動をとる鳳翔に2本も魚雷を命中させることができたのに、なんでNavT 99のパイロットの操縦する一式陸攻は停止している貨物船に一本の魚雷も命中させることができないんでしょう?こんなリプレイをみせられると、”Borked !”と叫びたくなります。
