カルカッタ近海でコンボイを殲滅



昭和17年6月15日、カルカッタの沖で、CA加古、CL神通、那珂とDD3隻のTFが連合軍コンボイと遭遇し、xAKを5隻撃沈しました。この連合軍コンボイは6月13日にアンダマン諸島Port Blair配備の大艇が発見したものです。ベンガル湾を東に航行中という報告だったので、運が良ければ攻撃できるかもしれないと考えて、モールメンに待機していたCA加古、CL神通、那珂を出港させました。6月14日には接触できなかったのですが、目的地はカルカッタなのかなと考えてダイアモンドハーバー方面をパトロールさせたところ、撃沈することができました。5隻ともtonnage 2750、VP 5と小さなxAKで戦果としては大したことはありませんが、読みが当たっての撃沈成功はプレイしている中の人の士気振作につながります。
それにしてもなんでこんなところでxAKを航行させているんでしょうか?インド内のサプライや部隊の輸送は鉄道や道路をつかえばいいはず。考えつくことといえば、カルカッタ、チッタゴンからアキャブへサプライを輸送する任務くらいでしょうか。チッタゴンからの海岸道は2級道路で、これからの雨季にはサプライの地上輸送が困難になります。現在の規模3のアキャブの飛行場を大きくするには、サプライがたっぷりあった方がいいでしょうからね。
ハワイのはるか北方、シアトル・ハワイ航路上で、I-16にSBDの500ポンド爆弾が命中しました。昨日まではSys 1だけのダメージでしたが、この爆弾命中でSys 18, Flt 7(6), Eng 1になりました。今回のPBEMで潜水艦に航空機の爆弾が命中したのは初めてですが、500ポンド爆弾でも当たり所がいいとこの程度の被害で済むんですね。現在のところ、日本側は主にE13A1 Jake(零水偵)が対潜哨戒を担当していますが、Jakeの60kg爆弾ではもしあたったとしても、かすり傷程度ですね、これでは。
日本側の潜水艦は脆弱で、わざわざ対潜哨戒機の哨戒圏外の大海原の真ん中を選んでパトロールさせているのに、空母(おそらくCVE)まで持ち出すとは、困ったもんです。平気で空母をASW任務に使える連合軍がうらやましい気がします。日本側にも大鷹や雲鷹がありますが、かえって沈められそうでASW任務に使う勇気がありません。みなさんはCVEをASWにつかっていますか?
