dot baseのfortificationは3が上限?



昭和17年8月7日、トラックから駆けつけたCV飛鷹・隼鷹・日進がようやくルーガンビルの近くまでやってきました。今日は49機のゼロ戦(A6M5 Zero)の護衛で、36機の九七艦攻(B5N2 Kate)がルーガンビルにとどまっている連合軍TFの攻撃に向かいました。もしかすると正規空母も残っているかと思ったのですが、正規空母を含むTFはすでにヌーメアの手前まで南下していました。しかしLong IslandとKittyhawkとHammondsportの3隻のCVEが残ってCAPを上げていました。しかもこれに加えて連合軍はP-39D Airacobra、P-400 Airacobra、P-40E Warhawkという陸軍機もルーガンビルに送り込んでいました。前々日のルーガンビルは滑走路ダメージ57、飛行場サービス施設ダメージ33だったのですが、多数のengineerが送り込まれているようで、今日の偵察ではairfield damage 25と報告されていました。
陸軍機が進出していることも誤算でしたが、ルンガからのsweepが行われなかったことも誤算でした。ルンガには新手のゼロ戦を100機以上移動させ、昨日と今日とルーガンビルへのsweepを指示してありました。しかし昨日も今日も「悪天候」ということで飛んでくれませんでした。「悪天候」というのは、やる気がないことの別の表現なのかもと思わされてしまいます。また距離8ヘクスで、九七艦攻が爆装だったことも。
sweepで数を減らす予定が実現せず、合計100機以上のCAPにはばまれた九七艦攻の戦果は250kg爆弾を一発、CVE Kittyhawkに命中のみでした。攻撃前のCAPのチェックだけでなく、投弾後にもCAPの攻撃を受け、九七艦攻は36機すべてが撃墜されてしまいました。惨敗です。機体やパイロットの手当にはまだ余裕がありますが、こういうことを続けていると連合軍側を安心させるばかり。どうも中の人の能力不足からやっていることがちぐはぐで、戦力の集中の必要性をまた痛感させられた次第です。
ニューギニア島の東端にMilne Bayという根拠地があります。ここは飛行場も港も規模0のdot baseです。ブナ失陥後の今となってはこの根拠地を維持しておく意味もほとんどないかと思われますが、駐屯している部隊を安全に撤収させる手段がなく、foritificationの構築だけを続けていました。engineerが4 squadしかいないので、進み具合はもともとかなりゆっくりだったのですが、fort level3になって以来、進展が見られなくなりました。飛行場も港も規模0のdot baseのfortificationのlevelは3が上限なんでしょうか?マニュアルをみても、またfortの強化にかかる日数とサプライの量の関係について調べたhow it works - fort buildingというスレ(fortificationの強化にかかる日数とサプライの量というエントリーに和訳あり)にもそのへんの記載はありませんでしたが。
