昭和17年8月25日、ニューギニア島南岸のTerapoに連合軍がBB North Carolinaと重巡4隻、軽巡5隻による上陸準備射撃があり、連合軍の地上部隊6個が上陸しました。Terapoにはしばらく前から爆撃と連日のように偵察機がやってきていたのですが、この上陸の準備のためだったようです。夜が明けると、ポートモレスビー、Horn Island、ブナから2波で合計56機の爆撃機の空襲がありました。上陸してきたのは第32歩兵師団、637駆逐戦車大隊、147歩兵連隊、151戦闘工兵連隊、第一Amphib Corpsで、兵員6040名、砲40門、車輌132台と報告されています。数日前からポートモレスビーにたくさんいたAPDなどが今日はみえませんから、ポートモレスビーにいた部隊を上陸させたようです。prepがあまりすすんでいないとみえて、上陸にともなってかなり多数のdeviceがdisabledになったと報告されています。
Terapoにいるのは佐世保第八海軍特別陸戦隊と建設工兵一部隊だけです。日本側もポートモレスビー失陥後このTerapoを守れるとは思っていませんでしたから、この2部隊も本当は撤収させたいけれどもニューギニア南岸に艦船を派遣することが無理なので残置されていたというのが実情です。TerapoのFortificationは3ですが、歩兵が850名、後方要員1074名では明日のShock Attack一回で陥落するのかな。なお、戦艦を含めた艦砲射撃があったにもかかわらず飛行場1(5)には被害はありませんでした。日本側はニューギニア北東部の部隊へのサプライ補給をマダン港に陸揚げしています。連合軍は規模５にまで拡張できるTerapo飛行場を奪取して、マダンへのFast Transport(鼠輸送)をシャットアウトすることが今回の上陸作戦の目的なのかもしれません。
でも、Terapoの奪取と飛行場の拡張を待つまでもないようです。今日はトラックからマダンへとサプライを満載して鼠輸送中だったPB Chiyo Maru #4がSS S-18に雷撃され、魚雷が一本命中しました。即沈没とはなりませんでしたが、Sys 27, Flt 68(56), Eng 23(15), Fire 2と浸水被害が大きいのでだめでしょうね。このAnshu xPB級は最高速度14ノットと日本のPBの中では速い方で、しかもFast Transportの際にはサプライを1000トンも積めるので重宝する艦種です。でも、こうやって一隻ずつすり減っていってる感じです。
昨日sweepを実施して大きな戦果をあげたビルマの陸軍飛行部隊ですが、今日も二式戦28機がチッタゴンにsweepを行いました。しかし今日のチッタゴン上空に敵機なし。その後、9機の百式重爆(Ki-49-IIa Helen)がチッタゴン港にいたAMC Agroを爆撃し、残念ながら命中弾ゼロでした
百式重爆の部隊にはPrimary MissionにNaval Attackを、Secondary MissionにチッタゴンへのAirfield Attackを指示してありました。こうすると、飛行場への爆撃が午後に実施されるので、sweepに戦闘機より後に目的地に到着する確率がぐっと高くなるのです。こういう手間をかけず、Primary MissionにAirfield Attackを指示すると、sweepの戦闘機より先に爆撃機が目的地に到着してしまい、護衛戦闘機がついていても脆弱な日本の爆撃機はCAPに多数撃墜されたりすることがあるので、それを嫌っての処置なのです。ただし、今日のようにTFを発見してそちらを攻撃に行ってしまうこともあるのです。
Magweの百式重爆5部隊すべてに同じ指示を出してありました。合計で可動機142機のうち、上記のTFを攻撃したのは9機で、本命の飛行場爆撃に出撃してくれたのは43機でした。Magweの飛行場の規模はまだ8で、配備できる飛行機のエンジン数が400(=8x50、規模1あたりエンジン50台)に制限されています。しかし配備されている飛行機のエンジン数は合計で511とオーバーしているので、そのペナルティなんかもあって、このくらいしか出撃してくれないのだと思われます。隣のメイクテーラ飛行場が規模3で、規模4にあと87%のところまで拡張工事が進んでいるので、規模4になれば分散させたいと思っています。
チッタゴン飛行場を爆撃した43機の戦果は、Airbase hits 7、Airbase supply hits 4、Runway hits 35で、しかも地上で連合軍機を15機も破壊してくれました。destroyedでなくdisabledになった機体はその3倍くらいあったと報告されていました。不思議なのは、連合軍がチッタゴンに多数の飛行機を留めておいたことです。今日はCAPは上がっていなかったし、ビルマ方面で連合軍からの爆撃作戦はありませんでした。昨日あれだけ戦闘機をおとされているので、今日のチッタゴン飛行場爆撃を予期して、カルカッタなど後方の飛行場に避難させてあるだろうと思っていたのです。このゲームでは、これまで日本側からチッタゴンに昼間の爆撃を実施したことは一度もありませんでした。CAPを制圧できた感触がなくて、爆撃機の被害が心配でチッタゴン昼間爆撃はずっと避けていたのです。その実績から連合軍も油断していたのかもしれません。ともあれ、今日はビルマ戦線で得点をあげることができましたが、連合軍もレドやコヒマやDimapurの飛行場を拡張中。難しい戦いが待っているものと思われます。
