開戦後、兵員を輸送する貨客船めぐる戦闘や駆逐艦やPTボートなどの戦闘はありましたが、巡洋艦クラスが射ちあう海戦は昭和16年12月13日が初めてです。
ボルネオの状況は、12日にMiriを占領し、13日にSingkawangに上陸したところです。また12日には最上級重巡4隻の艦隊がフィリピンから南下してきたxAKやAVPやASやAOをボルネオ島東のマカッサル海峡で多数沈めました。今ここは連合軍の艦船が多数通過中で、13日も貨物船・潜水艦との戦闘がありました。それに加えて連合軍の巡洋艦、駆逐艦との戦闘も起きました。駆逐艦2隻を沈め、CL Trompにも近々沈没と思われる大ダメージを与えましたが、CL Trompの放った21in Mk VIIc Torpedoが一発CA熊野に命中してしまいました。前回のPBEMでも潜水艦の魚雷を食らったことはありますが、水上艦の魚雷を食らったのは初めてのような気がします。CA熊野はSys 21, Flt 47, Eng 3, Fire 0となりました。魚雷を食らってもこの程度で済むものなんですね。近くに日本の根拠地はないので、パラオまでゆっくり航海させる予定です。
もうひとつはナウルで。タラワは9日に、ナウルは12日に占領済みで、Ocean Island上陸用の船団がいまJaluitにいます。タラワを占領した翌日、残ったサプライを陸揚げ中だった船団に連合軍の CA Pensacolaが殴り込んできて、貨物船を一隻失いました。ナウルでもその再現を狙って連合軍の巡洋艦がやってくることが予想されたので、サプライの陸揚げは中止して船団は北に退避させ、天龍、龍田、夕張の軽巡3隻と駆逐艦6隻の部隊で迎え撃つことにしました。案の定、 CA Pensacolaがやってきました。CAに対して、CL中心の艦隊でどうなるのか心配しましたが、2度の交戦の合計でShell hits 50, Torpedo hits 1を与え、撃沈することができました。たしか、条約型重巡は排水量制限の影響で重巡クラスの20センチ砲はおろか、軽巡の砲に対する防御に充分な装甲も備えていなかったような気がするので、9隻対1隻の多勢に無勢状態が効いたのでしょう。でも、こちらもShell hits 2, on fireとなったCL龍田がSys 43, Flt 29, Eng 22, Fire 2と大きなダメージを受けました。トラックやクエゼリンまで航海させると途中での沈没が怖いので、とりあえずナウルにdisbandして応急修理することとしました。
こうやって水上戦闘が起きると、ダメージを受けた艦は修理を受けることが必要になりますが、無傷で残った艦艇も弾薬の補充を受けなければならず、どこの港で補充することができるのかが気になります。マニュアルに20.1.2.2 SHIP REARMAMENT AT PORTS TABLEには、港の規模ごとにどんな弾薬の補充が可能かが表として載せられています。グランドキャンペーンの開戦時の主要な港の規模とその港に配置されているNaval Supportの数から、具体的に日本領のどの港で補充が可能か表にしてみました。重巡の20cm砲クラス以下の小口径砲はカムラン湾、高雄、パラオなどどこでも補充が可能です。しかし魚雷に関しては南方ではトラック、あとは高雄か馬公でないとだめなようです。空母のSirtiesは主要港ならどこでも補充可能ですが、空母の魚雷はトラックなどの拠点でないとだめですね。なお、港に配備されているNaval HQやBase ForceなどのNaval Supportを含んだ部隊は、開戦時に必ずしも完全充足ではないので、開戦後にNaval Supportの数が増えて、補充が可能になるところもあると思います。
あらためて、AKEの重要性が理解できました。唯一のAKEである樫野は呉で休息中ですが、開戦日にパラオに向かわせるべきだったと反省させられます。また、Lima Cargo級の6隻をAKEに改装中ですが、もっと多くてもいいのかも。
