ニューギニア東岸のBaboとセラム島のBoelaではoilが産出されます。ただ産出量が少ないのと、この地域は安全ではない気がしていたので、積載量1250トンの一番小さなタンカーをoil積み取りに派遣しています。昭和17年1月31日、Baboからoilをパラオに輸送するTK Mitu Maruが、連合軍のCA3隻とCL3隻のraiderに襲われ、護衛のPB Ryusei Maruともども沈められました。昨日、BaboでこのTFが連合軍偵察機を目撃していたので、なんとなく嫌な感じはあったのですが、空襲でなくて水上艦が来るとは予想外でした。それにしても、連合軍TFはどこから来たのでしょう。ジャワ島やオーストラリア西岸のパースからだと哨戒機がみつけてくれたはずだと思うので、トレス海峡経由でしょうか。そちらの方はしっかり哨戒させてないので。Boelaにresourceを積載途中のTFがいますが、今日連合軍の艦載水上機を目撃しました。つぎにBoelaにやって来るかもしれないので、disbandさせました。どこまで遠征させるつもりなのか、戦々恐々です。
インド洋では機動部隊がクリスマス島の南東でプリンスオブウエールズを発見して攻撃を敢行。リプレイでは魚雷2本が命中し、リポートでもMagazine explodes on BB Prince of Walesとsunkと表示されています。哨戒機の情報でBB一隻が報告されていますが、これはエスコートしていたDDだと考えたいところ。それにしても、バタビアで魚雷3本が命中していたはずのPoWが3日間でここまで移動できるとは思いませんでした。インド洋にはほかにも連合軍のTFが報告されています。KBがかなり燃料を消費しているので、repleninsh TFを差し向けていたのですが、危険なので退避させます。クリスマス島への上陸は実行できるかどうか、今日の様子も見てから考えようと思います。1月28日にパレンバンで活躍した連合軍の巡洋艦はスラバヤに戻っているようです。Babo付近に出現した巡洋艦と一緒に機動部隊に水上決戦を挑まれると厄介なことになりそうな。
連合軍はパレンバンの要塞化を進めています。スマトラの南西のBenkoelen港が危険と判断したのか、こんどはPadang港に輸送船を送り込んできました。ジョホールバルから一式陸攻が雷撃して、Euro L Cargo級 xAK Troja(tnnage 7350, VP 15)とEuro M Cargo級 xAK African Prince(tonnage 4420, VP 8)を撃沈しました。コンバットリポートには、xAK Troja撃沈に添えてAllied aircraft losses Hurricane IIa Trop: 16 destroyedと書かれていました。ハリケーンは飛行していなかったので、船積みされていたものが輸送船ごと沈んでしまったのでしょう。またTrackerで今日の機体の損失数をみると、Hurricane IIa Trop29機と Hurricane IIb Trop14機の損失が報告されているので、xAK TrojaだけでなくxAK African PrinceとxAK Clan Forbesもハリケーンを輸送してきたのだと思われます。空戦でハリケーンを撃墜するのはゼロ戦にも隼にも難しい仕事なので、今日一番の戦果はプリンスオブウエールズの撃沈ではなくて、これら輸送船の撃沈の方だと感じます。優秀なパイロットもたくさんKIAやWIAになったでしょうし。緒戦でマレー、ジャワ、スマトラの飛行隊にビルマやオーストラリアへ逃げられないようにするために、マレー半島の南下と同時に早めに蘭印東部の攻略を始めました。しかし相手の方はrestrictedでない飛行隊を逃がすどころか、域外からスマトラ島へ新着のハリケーンを送り込もうとしているのでした。私には想定外の行動で、こういうところは最高司令官の性格の差が如実にあらわれますね。
派遣してあった特殊潜行艇を積んだ潜水艦のうち、I-16からHa-6がパースを、I-20からHa-4がアリューシャン諸島のAdak Islandを、I-24からのHa-5がPago Pagoを、3カ所同時に攻撃してみました。パースのHa-6はEuro L Cargo級 xAK Empire Baxter(tonnage 6090, VP 12)に魚雷を一本命中させました。大きな港なので沈没はしないでしょうけどね。このパースのHa-6は、パースのヘクスに一日とどまるようにパトロールを設定してみました。特殊潜行艇にはこうした方がいいのか、それとも単にAdak IslandやPago Pagoには連合軍艦船がいなかったから空振りだったのか。これからも少し検証してみようと思います。
ふつうの潜水艦も今日は活躍していて、ハワイ・西海岸航路でI-21がFederal Type-E級 TK California Standard(tonnage 7150, VP 20)とFederal Type-E級 TK Pat Doheny (tonnage 7150, VP 20)を、I-175がIsthmian Cargo級 xAK Atlanta City(tonnage 4620, VP 9)に魚雷を命中させています。タンカーが即沈没にならなかったのは、東に向かう空船だったのでしょう。でも大海の真ん中ではあるので、港に着く前に沈んでくれるといいのですが。この海域では、Glenで連合軍の船団を発見して通過しそうなヘクスに潜水艦を配置する作戦が今のところ奏功しています。
