昭和17年1月14日。今日もいろいろと戦闘がありましたが、その中でも一番の悲しいお知らせは、マカッサル海峡でDD HibikiがオランダのSS KXIに撃沈されたことです。駆逐艦に潜水艦の魚雷が命中することは少ないのですが、DD Hibikiの場合、昨日の対AMC戦で傷ついていたので、回避行動がしにくかったのでしょう。また、単艦で香港まで帰還させようとした最高司令官の判断が誤っていたのかも。ボルネオ島とセレベス島のあいだに海のヘクスが一つしかない、しかもその一つが深海ヘクスになっているところがあります。ここはバリクパパンに往復する船団が必ず通過するヘクスで、オランダの潜水艦が潜んでいます。対潜哨戒機とASW TFを配置しているのですが、深く潜られると爆雷の効果がなく、いまのところ制圧できていません。
ダーウィンへは艦砲射撃と、機動部隊から63機のB5N2 Kateと78機のD3A1 Valが港への空襲を行いました。昨日の偵察ではダーウィン港には3隻のCAがいるように報告されていましたが、1隻しかいないようです。また沈没したと思っていたAS Platypusは生き残っていました。コンバットアニメーションでも多数の命中弾を見受けたのですが、sunkと表示されたものは一隻もありませんでした。火災が起きている艦船はこれから沈む可能性があるのかも知れませんが、こんなに爆弾があたっても沈没とは判定されないんですね。大破着底という感じでしょうか。
