ビルマ攻略のためには、ラングーンのイギリス空軍部隊を制圧しなければなりません。しばらく前からラングーンへのsweepを続けていて、ここ数日はCAPがいませんでした。もうそろそろ爆撃を始めてもいいだろうと考えて、昭和17年2月17日、戦爆連合71機の大編隊がラングーンに向かいました。予想に反して今日は多数のハリケーンとP-39DがCAPに上がっていました。Ki-21-IIa Sallyは対空砲による撃墜1機と空戦による撃墜14機の損失で、また護衛についたKi-43-Ic Oscarも空戦で5機とOps loss 1機の合計6機の損失という大損害になりました。念のために、この日もKi-43-Ib Oscarをラングーン上空のsweepに送っていたのですが、爆撃部隊よりもsweeperの方が後にラングーンに到着してしまい。撃墜2機に対して被撃墜8機と大敗でした。
まんまと連合軍のトラップにひっかかってしまいました。もう一日sweepの戦闘機だけを飛ばしていればずいぶんと違った結果になっただろうにと思うし、相手のほくそ笑む様子を想像するにつけても、残念。バンコクを同時に離陸しても、戦闘機だけのsweep部隊の巡航速度の方が速いので、戦爆連合の空襲部隊より先に到着しなければ変ですよね。このゲームのこの奇妙なコーディネートの仕様だけはいただけない。
スマトラ島最北端のSabangに上陸船団を向かわせていました。Sabangを確保すればインド洋を広く紹介することができることが一つ。また、Sabangの南にあるMedanを早く確保したいのですが、Medanには数千人規模のオランダ軍部隊がいるので、Sabangに上陸してから南下するつもりでした。今日、上陸船団とそれを護衛するCA高雄、CL球磨・名取のTFがSabangの東のヘクスに到達したところ、Swordfish11機による空襲がありました。対空砲火で3機を撃墜していて、対空砲火が激しいと魚雷を命中させにくくなる仕様だったと思うのですが、CA高雄が魚雷を2本命中されてしまいました。このゲームではSwordfishは日本の陸攻よりもよく働いていると思います。
距離5ヘクス北方に連合軍の軽空母が2隻いると報告されています。イギリスの軽空母と言えばHermesです。戦闘機の護衛がつかずにSwordfishだけで来襲したことからもHermesくさい気がします。でもHermesには昭和16年12月21日に陸攻が魚雷を一本命中させたはず。一本命中という報告だったが実は一本も命中していなかったのか、それともセイロン島での修理が完了したのか、どちらかなのでしょう。
CA高雄ですが、Sys 13, Flt 47(35), Eng 3(1)と魚雷が2本命中したわりには思ったより軽いダメージで済みました。魚雷によるダメージなので浸水被害が主で、Sysが少ないのは幸いです。Escort TFを仕立ててシンガポールに向かわせましたが、もう一回なにかの命中弾を受けたりしなければ辿り着けると思います。

このあとの上陸船団の身の振り方ですが、目的のSabangは隣りのヘクスで夜のうちに全部揚陸できると思うので、そのまま向かわせることにしました。連合軍空母は2隻と報告されているのですが、本当に2隻なのか？もしHermesだけでなければ、ひどいことになるかな。
