昭和17年2月26日のコンバットリプレイはラングーンへと向かうイラワジ川河口のヘクスでパトロールしていたI-155がイギリスの貨物船 xAK Indiraを雷撃し撃沈しました。連合軍は時々ラングーンに輸送船団を派遣していたので、潜水艦をここでパトロールさせていたのですが、I-155は任務を果たしてくれました。
モールメンからのサルウィン川を渡河してのビルマ攻略が、連合軍の防御で困難になっているので、直接ラングーンへ上陸する作戦を計画していました。昨日はちょうどその第一陣がラングーンに到着する日にあたっていました。連合軍はイギリスの戦艦を含めたTFをモールメンの艦砲射撃に送ったことが数回あったので、BB長門とCA那智・古鷹・鳥海を基幹とする水上戦闘TFをこの上陸船団の護衛につけていました。I-155の襲撃では撃沈したxAK Indiraしか視認できずませんでしたが、この水上戦闘TFは連合軍のTFを発見したようです。連合軍の輸送船団は危険を感じて北西に避退したもののようですが、先ほどの襲撃よりも北西のヘクスで捕らえ、砲撃と雷撃(魚雷がもったいない気もする)で xAK Chilkaと xAK Mundraの2隻のイギリスの貨物船を撃沈しました。
その後、第20師団と歩兵第113聯隊を乗せた二つの上陸船団がラングーンに到着しました。ここでミスが二つ発覚。ラングーンに送った3つの上陸船団のうち、第20師団を乗せたTFを第2師団を乗せたTFにはDMS(駆逐艦改装掃海鑑)を組み込んでおいたのですが、歩兵第113聯隊を乗せたTFには掃海艦を入れるのを忘れていました。おそらくそのせいだと思うのですが、歩兵第113聯隊を乗せたTFの7隻のxAKのうち3隻が触雷してしまいました。商船が触雷したのは初めての経験だと思います。潜水艦や駆逐艦と違って商船は大きいので、触雷しても即沈没とはならないのですね。触雷しなかった貨物船はサプライ揚陸後にシンガポールへ帰還、触雷したものはサプライ揚陸後にモールメンへと別々に向かわせることにしました。ただ、一隻はSys 18, Flt 71, Eng 6, Fire 28と大きなダメージを受けているので生還は難しいかもしれません。ただし、乗船していた歩兵第113聯隊の被害は死傷者18名、Squads: 1 destroyed, 1 disabledととても少なく、ちょっと驚きです。着岸時の触雷ということで助かったのかな。
もう一つのミスは、第20師団を乗せた上陸船団が上陸を始めなかったこと。第20師団を乗せた上陸船団は歩兵第113聯隊を乗せた上陸船団をフォローさせてありました。上陸を始めなかった理由は、フォローの相手のTFが目的地に到着したらこちらも自動的に上陸行動を始めるという仕様にはなっていないのか、または、歩兵第113聯隊を乗せた上陸船団の上陸開始もこの日のリプレイの最後の方に始まったので、フォローしているTFの方では上陸を始める時間が残っていなかったのか、どちらかだと思います。どちらなのか、経験不足で分かりません。あと、フォローの関係を逆にしておけば、DMSを組み込んである第20師団を乗せた上陸船団が先行して触雷せずに済んだかもしれません。これも悔やまれます。
戦闘が終わった後のアンダマン海ですが、気になることが二つ。連合軍はビルマ南部のモールメンの対岸ヘクスに5万7千人、ペグーに1000人、ラングーンに1万6千人あまりの守備隊を擁しています。これをラングーンに上陸した2個師団と一個歩兵聯隊で打ち破れるのかどうか。もう一つはニコバル諸島北部のヘクスに発見された連合軍TFの存在です。昨日、長門のTFが撃沈したTFと同じようにラングーンへの輸送船団が途中から逃げてここにきたものか(撃沈したTFは出発した港がカルカッタあたりで、このTFはマドラスかセイロン島ならそういうこともあり得ると思います)。それともまたモールメンを艦砲射撃にきた英軍のTFなのか。もし後者ならラングーンのヘクスへの殴り込みに目標を変更されたりするとまずいことになりそうです。でも、もう上陸作戦も後へは引けないかな。このまま実施して運を天に任せます。
