前回のエントリーで昭和17年3月10日にビルマのPromeを占領したことに触れました。ところが、13日にはインド国境から進軍して来た18th British Divisionに惨敗を喫し、陥落してしまいました。これだけなら、いくらでもありそうな話です。それをここに取り上げることにしたのは、地上戦の様子があまりにも一方的で驚いたからです。
3月10日の戦闘は渡河による強制的なshock attackとなりました。その疲れをいやすため、56連隊はそのままPromeで休養していました。3月13日の戦闘前のdisruption 14, fatigue 26と戦闘の影響はみられましたが、experience 87, morale 98と練度と士気の高い部隊で、戦力的にもTOEの95/99と充実しているので素のAVが118ありました。Promeには滑走路のダメージがあり、そちらの修繕が先行する仕様ですから、fortificationの構築はまだ始めることができていません。
開戦時、 18th British Divisionは18th British Divisionとしてではなく、構成する旅団に分かれたかたちでケープタウンにいる輸送船団に搭乗しています。輸送船団の行く先は史実と同様にシンガポールと設定されていますが、このゲームではインドのどこかに上陸したのでしょう。その後、鉄道でチッタゴンに移動し、そこから海岸線の道路をたどってビルマにやって来たものと想像します。
数ターン前から一個師団相当の部隊がPromeに向けて行軍していることは察知していました。しかし、モンスーン季ではないとはいえ、インドを越えてビルマへのサプライの補給が潤沢なはずがありません。ビルマで殲滅することのできる部隊が増えて好都合だくらいに楽観的にみていたのです。
3月13日の18th British DivisionのPromeへの進入は渡河なので、強制的にshock attackとなりました。コンバットリポートによると、修正前のAVは56連隊が112、18th British Divisionが445と、連隊対師団という戦力差を考えれば順当な値です。ところが、驚いたことに修正後のAVは6と606になり、assault oddsは1対101で惨敗。戦力もTOEの95/99だったのが35/75まで減少。35の大部分はsupportが占めていて、直接の戦力である歩兵分隊は4分隊、機関銃分隊が1分隊と全滅以上の惨状となりました。
表示されたmodifierは英軍にshock(+)とleaders(+)、日本側にleaders(+)とdisruption(-)とpreparation(-)。ビルマ内を転戦するので、こんな小さな町にprepしてないのはやむを得ないところですよね。disruption 14がすごく効いたということなんでしょうか。またPromeの地形はcultivatedです。cultiveatedのdefence valueがマニュアルに見当たらないのですが、移動に関してはclearと同様に扱われると書かれているので、defence valueもclear terrainと同じくx1(一倍)、つまり防御に地形効果なしなのでしょう。まとめると、多少のdisruptionでも平地で防御施設がない状況で戦うと、劣勢な側は想像を超える大敗を喫してしまうことがあるということなのでしょうね。
今日はインド西岸のTrivandrum近海でI-158がTK Fenrisを雷撃。沈没の報告はないのですが、アニメーションの後に沈没音がきこえたので撃沈は確実。大きなタンカーを沈めたことで気を取り直し、プレイを続けることにしました。
