連合軍戦闘機多数を地上で破壊


昭和17年3月10日、スラバヤを占領しました。守備隊の数が2万5千人ほどと少なかったので、シンガポールのように手間取ることもなく、攻略することができました。油田と製油所の破壊もわずかで、かなりの量が貯蔵されていたoilやfuelを接収できて、日本経済もほっと一息つけます。ジャワ島も東半分は平定が済み、次はバタビアを攻略したいと思います。バタビアには3万5千人ほどの守備兵がいるので、スラバヤよりは手強いものと思われます。輸送船団がジャワ中部北岸のSemerang港に揚陸中の143聯隊を、スラバヤを攻略した部隊に加えて、攻撃しようと思っています。3月中にはジャワ島に平和をもたらしたいものです。
同じく3月10日、オーストラリア北西部のダーウィンに第38師団が上陸しました。第38師団は香港を攻略した後、ポートモレスビー戦に参加して、ポートモレスビーを占領しました。その後はスタンレー山脈を陸路越えてBunaからラバウルに海路移動して、休養をとりました。ラバウルで上陸船団に乗り込み、ニューギニア北岸・西岸をまわってダーウィンに上陸しました。ポートモレスビーを攻略したのは1月6日で、その後Future Objectiveをダーウィンに設定し始めましたが、65ターンほどでprep は100になるんですね。
ダーウィンには沿岸砲があるので上陸船団にはCA鈴谷を加えました。ダーウィンはこれまで艦砲射撃や爆撃で痛めつけておいたのとサプライ不足もあるのかもしれませんが、上陸前の砲撃戦で日本側の艦船には被害が出ませんでした。また兵員の被害も日本側54名に対して連合軍側452名と連合軍側の方が多く、こういうのはこれまでみたことがなかったような気がします。上陸船団をエスコートしているのはBB山城の水上戦闘TFだけです。空母が支援していないのは少し不安ですが、この海域はチモール島クーパンからしっかり哨戒できているはずなので大丈夫かなと。あと、mini KBはインド洋で活躍していましたが、ここしばらく機動部隊は連合軍の目には触れていません。なので、連合軍がこの上陸作戦にちょっかいを出すには、ここに機動部隊がいることを想定してかからなければいけないことになります。連合軍最高司令官はそんなuncommonなvalorを発揮するでしょうか?


ダーウィンは1万5千名弱の連合軍部隊が守備しています。一個師団だけで攻略できるとは思っていなかったので、満州から転進させた第1師団とともに上陸させるつもりでした。しかし先行した第38師団の船団がアンボン近海で連合軍潜水艦に攻撃されました。この攻撃のコンバットリポートを見れば、連合軍がダーウィン上陸の意図は読み取るのは困難ではないだろうと感じたので、後続する船団との合流を待たずに上陸させてしまったので、一個師団だけの上陸になったわけです。かなり以前からダーウィン南東のKatherineに連合軍の地上部隊が陣取っていますが、まだ動く気配がありません。連合軍にはダーウィンを水際で防衛する意図はないのかもしれません。ただ、だからといって簡単にダーウィンを奪取できるとも思えません。これから一個師団だけで第一回の攻撃を行ってみます。
今日はビルマ戦線でラングーンの北3ヘクスにあるPromeの町を占領しました。ここの占領の目的の一つは海岸道を通って英軍がインドに撤退することを妨害することです。そしてもう一つはこのPromeにあった連合軍飛行部隊を破壊することでした。後述しますが、ラングーンには2個師団・3個旅団・1個聯隊を含む強力な英軍地上部隊が居座っていて、その英軍部隊にバンコクから爆撃を行っていました。3月8日、21機の一式戦の護衛で65機の九七重爆がラングーンの英軍部隊爆撃に向かいましたが、P-40E Warhawk 7機、P-39D Airacobra 5機、Hurricane IIb Trop 9機の待ち伏せを受け、一式戦 16機、九七重爆 8機を失いました。連合軍はPromeに戦闘機を移動させ、ラングーン上空にLRCAPを行い、成功を収めたのでした。
ルーチンと化した爆撃行に対するサプライズ的な迎撃は、航空優勢を握れない弱者の戦術ですが、それなりに有効で、日本側も1942年後半以降は多用せざるを得なくなります。ただ、この場合のPromeからのLRCAP作戦には問題点が二つあります。ひとつはPromeの飛行場の規模が1しかないこと。たしかに戦闘機は規模1の飛行場からでも作戦可能です。しかし、規模1の飛行場は敵の爆撃により容易に離陸不能・整備不能にされてしまい、爆撃が続けられると戦闘機が地上で破壊されてしまいます。もう一つの問題点は、Promeからの鉄道による移動が日本のLCUの存在で不可能なことです。飛行場が使用不能にされても飛行隊を鉄道で他の飛行場に移動させることができればいいのですが、ここ数日のPromeはそれができない状態でしたので、Promeへの戦闘機隊の移動は連合軍の失策と感じました。
3月9日のターンでは、バンコクにいた4個戦隊すべてにProme飛行場の夜間爆撃を指示しました。連合軍ならこういう作戦には四発爆撃機をあてればいいのですが、日本側の爆撃機は脆弱なので夜間爆撃にしました。あと、昼間はCAPやLRCAPをしている連合軍戦闘機も、夜間だと地上にいて爆撃で破壊しやすいだろうと思ったからです。4個戦隊で九七重爆が合計で110機ほどになりますが、夜間爆撃ですからmoralや技量のチェックが厳しいのでしょう、実際に参加できたのは66機でした。しかも、編隊からはぐれたというメッセージが表示されて、4個戦隊なのに7波に分かれての爆撃となりました。バラバラの爆撃はCAPがいれば災難のもとですが、CAPはなく、地上で18機の戦闘機を破壊し、ほかにも多数に損傷を与えることができました。
今日は昼間、67機の一式戦の護衛で42機の九七重爆がProme飛行場を爆撃して6機を地上で破壊しました。またその後、56聯隊がPromeへ渡河攻撃shock attackを行って占領したため、56機のOps lossが報告されました。Promeの町自体の損失は大したことはなくても、このくらいの数の戦闘機の損失はこの時期の連合軍にとってはそれなりに影響を与えるだろうと期待します。
先ほど書いたように、ラングーンには強力な英軍部隊がいます。どうしてこうなったかというと、まずはラングーンに上陸した日本側が3月1日にラングーンを占領しました。ラングーンから北西のヘクスに撤退した英軍部隊はしばらくじっとしていましたが、このところ東のヘクスに向けて移動しています。一方、モールメンの日本軍部隊とサルウィン川をはさんで対峙していた英軍部隊は、ラングーン上陸前から移動を始めていました。そのうちの一部がラングーンに到着した3月5日に、日本側からdeleberate attackをしかけました。しかしちょうどその攻撃の前のフェーズで英軍主力がラングーンに到着し、3月5日のラングーン戦は修正AV 1対2で日本側の敗北。この時点でラングーンのヘクスの6つのヘクスサイドのうち5つは日本側支配、東側のヘクスサイドのみ英軍支配となりました。しかし、その後にモールメンから追撃した日本側部隊がラングーンのヘクスに到着して、現在ではラングーンのヘクスサイドはすべて日本側支配の赤い色になっています。この状態で地上戦に勝利すれば、英軍部隊は逃げ道がなく全滅となるはずです。ですから、英軍部隊のこの動きも失策と判断してもいいような気がします。本来なら北のマンダレー方面へ移動すべきだったでしょう。
ラングーン占領後にPromeに向けて56聯隊を派遣(英軍の戦闘機が派遣されたからではなく、Prome占領が既定の方針でした)していたため、ラングーンの日本軍は1個師団と1個聯隊程度の規模です。これではすぐに英軍部隊に地上戦で勝利することは難しいところ。でも、3月5日のコンバットリポートでは、英軍部隊にはdisruption(-)とexperience(-)の修正がついていました。また、ラングーンのヘクスサイドをすべて日本側が支配していると言うことは包囲されているのと同じで、外部からサプライの供給がありません。今後、サプライ不足で英軍部隊がさらに弱体化するのをまって処理することになるかなと思います。ただし、ラングーンに英軍部隊が居座っていると、ラングーンを発着地とする・経由する鉄道移動ができないのが不便ではありますが。
今日の飛行機の損失数をTrackerでみてみると、連合軍側は合計86機で、緒戦期でもなかなかみられない大きな戦果でした。今日の連合軍の損失機の4番目はDC-2です。PromeにはDC-2も配置されていたようです。ここ数日ラングーンの上空で”Transports flying to 54,53 intercepted”とオペレーショナルリポートに報告されていて、ラングーンのサプライ不足を緩和するためPromeから輸送機を飛ばしていたのだと思われます。 大戦中期以降になってC-47を百機単位で運行できるようになれば話は別かもしれませんが、合計で3個師団近い地上軍を支えるのは困難でしょう。まだまだ今の時期の連合軍には輸送機の数が少ないはずなので、これもうれしい戦果です。今後のヒマラヤ越えの中国へのサプライ輸送を事前に妨害したようなものでもありますし。
