昭和18年1月20日、今日も昨日とほぼ同じような内容の夜間空襲の記録です。お退屈かもしれませんが、いくつか変化もあったので私の覚えのためにまとめておきます。重慶には九七重爆(Ki-21-IIa Sally) 8機と百式重爆(Ki-49-IIa Helen) 45機が7波にわかれて侵入しましたが、CAPはいませんでした。CAPがいなかったことと、天候がPartial cloudで前々日・前日のSevere stomrsから回復していたためだと思いますが、Airbase hits 5、Airbase supply hits 3、Runway hits 15とそれなりの命中弾がありました。連合軍機の地上での破壊もA-29A Hudson 2機、P-66 Vanguard 1機、P-43A-1 Lancer 1機、P-70 Havoc 1機が報告されています。
このうちで注目すべきなのはP-70 Havocです。P-70 Havocには1月17日インパ－ル上空で初めて遭遇し、夜間戦闘機の手強さを実感させられました。これまで夜の重慶上空にはP-38がCAPしていましたが、P-38ではあまり効果がないと判断してP-70をインドから移動させたのではないかと想像します。航空部隊に根拠地間移動を指示すると瞬時に移動するように見えます。しかしゲームエンジンはこの移動に要する時間も考慮しているので、移動指示の直後の夜のフェーズにはCAPできなかったんだと思います。P-70とかP-38という難敵は1機でも地上で破壊できるとうれしいかぎり。
前日に引き続き、ビルマではマグエに夜間空襲がありました。81機(B-17E Fortress 14、B-24D Liberator 34、B-25C Mitchell 28、Liberator II 5)の爆撃機が10波にわかれての来襲です。昨夜はCAPに二式戦(Ki-44-IIa Tojo) 9機と二式複戦(Ki-45 KAIa Nick) 2機しか上がっていませんでした。合計で90機以上になる3部隊に夜間CAPを指示してあったのですが、前日の戦闘でmoraleが低下していた影響でこんなことになったのかもしれません。とはいってもこれら部隊のmoraleはどれも91以上はあったんですけど。少数機のCAPが迎撃したのは爆撃第一波のB-17E Fortress 4機のみで、この4機の爆撃では命中弾はありませんでした。しかしCAPがいなくなった後の9波は自由に爆撃していて、リプレイの時間が長く感じたこと。合計でAirbase hits 13、Airbase supply hits 1、Runway hits 21の命中弾が記録されています。地上で二式戦 10機と二式複戦 3機が破壊され、飛行場サービス施設に 27と滑走路に18のダメージが残ってしまいました。
やはり前日に引き続きラバウルにも3波17機のB-24D Liberatorがありました。B-24Dの機数が少ないのは、ポートモレスビーからはるばるラバウルまで飛行し、しかも迎撃を受けますから、修理中の機数が増えてきているのかも知れません。二式水戦(A6M2-N Rufe) 10機、零戦52型乙(A6M5b Zero) 12機、二式複戦(Ki-45 KAIa Nick) 5機が迎撃して、零戦5機と二式水戦4機が空戦で失われましたが、飛行場の被害はRunway hits 2で済みました。これら夜間空襲に加えて、昼間の哨戒や偵察飛行などもひっくるめて、日本機の損失数は34機と昨日もたくさん失いました。連合軍側は7機だけでした。
前日の1月19日、伊171が南太平洋を東航するコンボイの貨物船を撃沈しました。今日20日は、伊171の撃沈地点よりも8ヘクス東で、伊168潜がxAK Toendjoekを撃沈しました。おそらく19日に遭遇したのと同じコンボイに所属していたんだろうと思います。そのまま東に進めば接触するかなと期待して伊168を派遣したのが奏功しました。
