遊びをせんとや: 昆明上空にもCAPの姿が

昭和17年12月26日、今日は夜間空襲が再開。ニューギニア・ソロモン戦線ではラバウルに四発爆撃機4波42機(B-17F Fortress 12、B-24D Liberator 30)が来襲。高度約10000フィートで接近し、レーダーが3－16分前に探知して、陸海軍機いろいろとりまぜた34機(二式水戦A6M2-N Rufe 4、ゼロ戦51型A6M5 Zero 6、ゼロ戦52型A6M5b Zero 20、二式複戦Ki-45 KAIa Nick 4)のCAPが迎撃しました。しかし、CAPの奮闘にもかかわらず、日本機は空戦で16機を失い、地上でも3機が破壊され、連合軍機の損失数はゼロ。高度7000フィートからの爆撃でAirbase hits 5、Airbase supply hits 1、Runway hits 21の命中弾があり朝になっても飛行場サービス施設に10、滑走路に1のダメージが残っていました。ラバウル要塞でもこれが精一杯です。連合軍がすべての四発爆撃機を集中して毎日爆撃に来たりしていないことだけが救いです。

ビルマ戦線では南部のToungooに5波38機(B-17E Fortress 3、B-24D Liberator 14、B-25C Mitchell 21)が来襲しました。ここにも規模4の飛行場があり、鉄道でラングーンや中部のマグエと連絡されているので連合軍も気になるのでしょうが、日本側にはここにまで夜間のCAPを上げる余裕がありません。CAPなしでもRunway hits 15の命中弾で済んだのは高度12000フィートからの爆撃だったからでしょうか。

そして今日はタイ北部のチェンマイにも5波24機の四発爆撃機(Liberator II 12、B-17E Fortress 12)がやってきました。チェンマイにも昼間の空襲が来たことは何度かありましたが、夜間空襲はこれが初めてのような気がします。チェンマイには輸送機を配置して、ビルマ北部のミイトキーナにせっせとサプライを空輸させています。ビルマへは主に海路でラングーンにサプライを輸送しています。しかしそこから北へ陸路でのサプライの輸送は順調とはいえません。乾季(ゲーム内に乾季と定義された時期はないと思いますが、雨季のペナルティを受けない時期ということで)の現在でも北部のミイトキーナのサプライ集積状況は目標に達しません。なので少しでも補おうとチェンマイから空輸しているわけです。チェンマイはバンコクを経由した鉄道でシンガポールとの連絡がありますから、サプライの心配がないので。でも連合軍が空襲しに来た目的はそれではないかも。夜間空襲解禁中は夜間にもCAPを上げなければならず戦闘機が不足します。爆撃機の護衛につける戦闘機が足りないので、インドに対する日本側の爆撃キャンペーンもお休み。遊ばしておくのももったいないので、CAPのいないと思われる連合軍の根拠地を爆撃させたいところですが、なかなか難しい問題があります。ビルマ中部のように近場にターゲットがある飛行場に爆撃機を配置すると連合軍の夜間空襲によって地上で多数破壊されちゃうし、出発飛行場が連合軍の夜間空襲を受けにくいところと限定するとほとんど目標がないんですよね。ここ数日はチェンマイに一個戦隊を配置して中国の昆明を爆撃させてみました。連合軍がチェンマイに来たのは(後述の昼間のできごとともあわせて考えると)、そのためなんだろうと思います。チェンマイ飛行場にはCAPがいません。Airbase hits 2、Airbase supply hits 2、Runway hits 10の命中弾で、地上で百式重爆(Ki-49-IIa Helen)1機と一式貨物輸送機(Ki-56 Thalia)2機が破壊されてしまいました。

チェンマイ飛行場には朝になってもサービス施設に10、滑走路に11のダメージが残っていましたが、前日と同じように百式重爆(Ki-49-IIa Helen)12機が昆明爆撃に向かいました。昆明付近の飛行場はそれなりに叩いてあるのでCAPはいないだろうということで護衛戦闘機はなしです。ところが今日は昆明上空に20機のCAP(P-38F Lightning 8、P-38G Lightning 12)が待ち伏せしていました。百式重爆は5機撃墜され、1機がOps lossとなってしまいました。偵察機の報告では100機以上の戦闘機が重慶に集結しています。昆明・重慶間は距離9ヘクスもありますが、P-38ならLRCAPも可能ということなんですね。これまでにも何度かP-38には待ち伏せされていますし、中国の空もだいぶ危険になってきてしまいました。

Trackerをみると今日の日本機の損失数はいろいろあわせて28機と報告されています。それに対して連合軍機はゼロ。長距離を飛んでの夜間空襲やLRCApをしていてOps lossまでゼロとはね。
