Akyab空襲対CAP 昭和18年2月20日


昭和18年2月20日、マニラからダバオにresourceを積み出しに行くコンボイがSS Amberjackに雷撃され、Daigen Cargo級(tonnage 1650, VP 2)の xAKL Assam Maruが沈没しました。SS Amberjackは同じヘクスでもう一度攻撃してきました。幸い、2回目の攻撃はPBに向けたものではずれでした。護衛のいない商船に対して同じヘクスで2度攻撃があるのは稀ならず見かけますが、2隻のPBが護衛についているコンボイだったということを考えると、舐められているとしか思えません。リプレイをみていると”SS Amberjack eludes ASW attack from PB Kashiwa Maru”と表示されて、PBは攻撃させてもらえませんでした。爆雷攻撃が始まってから、潜水艦の艦長が艦を移動させながら逃れてゆくのはよくあることですが、こういう風に攻撃もさせてもらえないというのはあまり多いことではない気がします。PBが潜水艦に舐められるのも仕方ないのかも。その後、豊原の沖で、ASWチームがSS S-31を攻撃しました。途中で浮上させ20発以上も砲弾を撃ち込んで沈めました。連合軍潜水艦による日本の艦船の沈没は、2月3日にクーパンへサプライ輸送中のxAK Hokko MaruがSS KXVに雷撃されて以来です。しばらく静かだったのは、多数の艦隊型潜水艦を母港に待機させていて、上陸作戦決行にあわせて一斉に出撃させるつもりかとも心配していたのですが、そういうわけでもないのかな。どうなんでしょう。






昨日のエントリーでお知らせしたように、Akyabの飛行場に連合軍の戦闘機が配備されました。放置するわけにもゆかず、どうなるのか心配でしたが、ラングーンからAkyab飛行場を爆撃を決行しました。連合軍の戦闘機はHurricane IIb Trop、Hurricane IIc Trop、P-40K WarhawkがCAPに上がっていました。日本側はKi-44-IIa Tojoのsweep2波の後に、Ki-44-IIa Tojoの護衛でKi-49-IIa Helenが爆撃しました。リポートによると、今日は4機のKi-44-IIa Tojoの損失で、3機のHurricane IIb Tropと6機のHurricane IIc Tropと3機のP-40K Warhawkの撃墜に加えて、地上でHurricane IIb Tropを1機破壊したようです。Trackerのデータでも昨日と反対に今日は日本側優勢の空戦だったことがみてとれます。ただし、パイロットの死傷はKIA5名、WIA2名、MIA4名と昨日と同じくらいでした。Akyabは重要な拠点なので放置するわけにはいきませんが、 パイロットの死傷者数が少なくないことを考えると、こういう戦いを続けるのはあまり気がすすみません。できれば連合軍側がこれに懲りて、Akyabから飛行機を後方に下げてくれればいいのですが。あと、今日の戦闘で一名エースが生まれました。うちのIJAにもIJNにもエースは数少ないので貴重な存在。
あと、腑に落ちないのが第一波のsweep。第一波のKi-44-IIa Tojoは35000フィートの高度を飛んだグループと12000フィートを飛んだグループが混在しています。12000フィートのグループはKi-49-IIa Helenの護衛を設定してあった飛行隊のTojoだと思われます。護衛を設定すると、かなり高度が違うのに同じ基地から出撃するsweepの飛行隊を護衛してしまうことがやはりありますね。
