昭和18年2月27日、ラングーンへの空襲が今日もあり、3機のKi-44-IIa Tojoが地上で破壊されました。原因は不明ですが、やはりCAPがいません。仕方がないので、明日はペグーの戦闘機にラングーンへのLRCAPを設定してみようと思います。
昨日、Vanua LavaにBBを含んだTFが報告されました。NettyをCAPのいることが分かっているヘクスに飛ばすのは、被害を考えると気が重いものです。でも、ルンガから12ヘクスのところに堂々と停泊させておくのもなんなので、2週間後の3月15日までにwithdrawしなければならないBettyとNellの飛行隊にNaval Attackを指示してみました。2波のうち第一波は51分前に探知されましたが、CAPは予想よりずっと手薄でした。これまでVanikoroやVanua Lavaの飛行場への夜間爆撃を繰り返していたので、おそらく夜間のCAPに重点を置いていたのでしょう。
Bettyの方は27機、Nellの方は9機の部隊ですが、それぞれ9機と6機しか飛んでくれませんでした。BettyはBB North Carolinaに魚雷を一本命中させ、NellはLST Type-II級(tonnage 1625)のLST-446(VP 3)を撃沈しました。NellにもLSTなんかではなく大物を狙って欲しかったところです。全員NavalTスキル70以上のパイロットばかりですが、対空砲火も厳しいでしょうし、15機で魚雷2発の命中というのは妥当な結果なんでしょうか。Trackerをみると、F4F-4 WildcatとA6M2 Zeroは2機ずつのAir Lossで、BettyとNellには一機の損失もありませんでした。CAPより護衛戦闘機の方が数が多かったと言う点を考えても、護衛のA6M2 Zeroはいい仕事をしたと思います。
