昭和17年6月7日、ビルマ東部のラシオから行軍を始めた2個師団が雲南省保山(Paoshan)に到着しました。ところが、コンバットアニメーションを見ていると、陸戦画面でShock Attackをしかけているではありませんか。予想外のできごとにびっくり。マップを見直してみると保山の西側にサルウィン川が流れていたことに改めて気付かされました。保山のヘクスへの侵入は渡河なので、強制的なShock Attackになるのはこのゲームの仕様です。マップを見ていてここに川があることはみえていたはずですが、認識のレベルに上がっていなかった、見れども見えず状態だったわけです。
このてひどい失敗により保山での戦闘は、素のAV 971対2590、山岳地系による防御ボーナスとfortification 3が入って修正AV 236対4744、オッズ比1対20の惨敗。中国軍の死傷者782名に対して、日本側は5263名で、一個師団は歩兵分隊のすべてがdisabledに、もう一個師団は歩兵の半数がdisabledになってしまいました(ちょっと違ってました)。中国軍の増援が保山に先に到着していたことは知っていたのですが、爆撃と砲撃で少しづつ削る予定でした。でもこの惨敗で計画は水の泡。保山へはビルマから2級道路しか通じていないので、サプライの補給も困難です。サプライとsupportが充分にないとdisabledになったdeviceが復活するのもかなりゆっくりなので、保山からラシオまで撤退させようと思います。ただ、もしかすると8日には中国側から攻撃があって、さらに被害が増えてしまうかも知れません。また、この2個師団に後続して保山の西のヘクスまで来ていた砲兵部隊と歩兵師団も回れ右させました。
中国戦線では南陽で中国軍の大部隊と対峙しています。この中国軍に対しては、砲撃と漢口からの爆撃で少しずつ削っているところです。南陽のヘクスの6つのヘクスサイドのうち5つは日本側が支配。中国側が支配しているヘクスサイドは北西のみです。この南陽へのサプライの補給を少しでも妨害しようと考え、西安と南陽をつなぐ道路の交差点のヘクスに8th Armored Car Coを移動させました。中国側がそれに反応して西安から部隊を移動させ、6月7日、戦闘となりました。森林ヘクスなので少しは粘れるのかと思っていたのですが、中国側はArmy 4個とCorps 4個を動員していて、オッズ比 487対1で全滅させられてしまいました。さすがに中隊に数万の敵の相手は無理でした。司令官の能力のなさから大敗が続いた一日でした。
