昭和17年6月7日、きのう保山へ移動して、渡河にともなうShock Attackを強いられて疲弊した近衛師団と第2師団ですが、今日は中国側からdeliberate attackをしかけられました。山岳の地形ボーナスはありますが、disruptionとfatigueがひどかったので、オッズ比4対1で敗北し、6487名の死傷者がでて、保山のヘクスから追い出されてしまいました。この戦闘に敗れるのは、昨日の結果からみて必然的。負けても保山のヘクスでがんばるなんてことにならなくて良かったと思います。どっちにしろ再験するためにはサプライのたっぷりあるラングーンくらいまで戻すつもりなので、鉄道の通じているラシオまでの行軍にかかる日数が2-3日少なくなったと前向きに受け止めておきます。
ポートモレスビー陥落後の5月11日、トレス海峡にあるHorn Islandに連合軍の空挺降下がありました。その空挺作戦は失敗に終わらせたことは以前のエントリーで紹介しましたが、その後は連日のように爆撃が続きました。Horn Islandには44th Naval Guard Unitと51st Const Coの2部隊がいるだけで、両方とも小さな部隊ですから、爆撃によってほとんどの分隊がdsiabledになってしまっていました。そして今日はCA CanberraとCA Australiaを基幹とした上陸船団が登場。上陸前の艦砲射撃で死傷者521名と報告され、おそらくこの艦砲射撃でまともな部隊は残らなかったものと思われます。もともとAVが60近くあった部隊ですが、陸戦では素のAVが71対4。fort level 3を加味した修正AVも51対1、オッズ比も52対1で全滅してしまいました。もっと早く上陸してくるかとも思っていたのですが、連合軍も空挺作戦の失敗に懲りてじっくり攻めたようです。ポートモレスビー陥落後1ヶ月以上がんばれたことの方が不思議。
ところで、コンバットリポートには陸戦のところにUnits destroyed 1とだけ記載されていて、艦砲射撃の項にはUnits destroyed 1という記載はありません。たしかに昨日までは2部隊いたし、今日のマップには日本側の部隊は残っていないので2部隊とも全滅だと思うのに、一部隊の全滅しか報告されていないのが不思議。もしかすると、これまでにもこういうことはあったのかも知れず、今回は離れ小島でのできごとだったのでそれがはっきりしただけなのかもしれません。
ポートモレスビーとHorn Islandが連合軍の手に渡ってしまったので、今後はオーストラリアの北岸まわりで、蘭印西部に艦砲射撃TFなどがやってくるかもしれません。ニューギニア北東部はなんとかなるべく長く日本側が保持したいと思っています。ブナへのサプライの補給はMadangに陸揚げすれば地上を輸送されてゆくことが判明したので、一息ついています。ただ、その経路の途中のdot baseを空挺作戦で奪われると輸送に支障を来しそうな気がするので、空白のdot baseに小部隊を移動させつつある、今日この頃です。
