第一回ブナ防衛戦

戦闘機の飛行隊のCAPのrangeを0に設定すると、その飛行隊の配属された飛行場の存在するヘクスだけでCAP任務を行います。しかし、rangeが1より大きいと周辺のヘクスにもCAPの傘を広げようとします。ただし、周辺のヘクスの防衛にあたる機数は、その飛行隊の配属された飛行場の存在するヘクス(CAPの傘の中心)を防衛する機数よりも、かなり少なくなります。なので、少数機を相手に弱いものいじめをしようと考えた場合には、周囲のヘクスを目標にsweepするのが良策です。
ポートモレスビー陥落後、連合軍が百数十機の戦闘機をポートモレスビー飛行場に配備しています。これだけ多数の戦闘機を相手にポートモレスビーを目標としたsweepをするのはためらわれ、これまではポートモレスビーの北東のヘクス(ドットベースもないヘクスですが、連合軍部隊がいるのでsweepの目標とすることが可能でした)を目標にsweepしていました。当初は10機ちかく落とせたのですが、昨日は3機のP-40Eがいただけでした。連合軍がCAPのrangeをしぼってしまって、周辺ヘクスへのsweepでは戦果に乏しくなったのだろうと考えて、昭和17年5月25日はラバウルのA6M3bの2部隊でポートモレスビーをsweepしてみることにしました。
ラバウルからポートモレスビーへの距離が遠いせいか、2部隊合同とはならず、2波にわかれてのsweepとなってしまいました。第一波は20機のA6M3bに対して、P-39DとP-40E合計で60機の迎撃、第二波は25機のA6M3bに対して、P-39DとP-40E合計で49機の迎撃。参加機数が多いので、アニメでも全部の撃墜は把握できず、スコアは1対1より少しだけ良かったという程度です。新たに1名のエースが誕生しましたが、2名がKIAとMIAになってしまい、今日の空の戦いは敗北でした。また、今日はMIA 6名、WIA 4名、KIA 4名と久しぶりに多数の死傷者を出してしまいましたが、全員がこのsweepによるものです。ただ、A6M3bの部隊は二つともmorale 99を維持していて、弔い合戦をする気は充分のようです。一日休ませてからsweepを再開しようと思います。
その後、49機のP-40Eがブナの部隊に高度100メートルで攻撃してきました。連合軍はたくさん戦闘機があってうらやましいなあという感じですが、この攻撃はやり過ぎでした。ブナにはポートモレスビーから退却して来たものと、もともとブナにいたものと、対空砲の部隊が二つ駐屯しています。また対空砲の貧弱な日本軍ですが、高度100メートルでの爆撃と機銃掃射に対しては、歩兵も小銃で応射するのでしょう。P-40Eは3機がflak lossになっていました。
連合軍がふだんしないような低高度からの攻撃をなぜしかけてきたのか。それは、昨日ブナに到着した部隊によるブナへの総攻撃を支援するためでした。以前のエントリーでも書いたように、ポートモレスビーの陥落により、ニューギニア東岸の根拠地はラエあたりまで失ったも同然と判断していました。ポートモレスビーには合計で3個師団近い兵力が上陸したのですから、全力で押し出せばひとたまりもないはずです。そう考えてブナには新たな増援は送らず、ポートモレスビーで叩かれ撤退して来た114聯隊と佐世保第3特別陸戦隊に、元々ブナにいた第2特別陸戦隊中隊の三つの歩兵部隊と、対空砲部隊や飛行場整備部隊が駐屯していただけでした。
なので、今日の陸戦のアニメでブナ防衛に成功したという結果をみて驚きました。コンバットレポートを見ると連合軍は全力でスタンレー山脈を越えて来たわけではなく、一個師団、一個連隊、一個大隊の3部隊だけでした。連合軍はこの結果をみて、ポートモレスビーに残留している一個師団もこちらに動かしてくるしょうか?もし増援を送る気配がみえないようなら、ラバウルに3部隊いる特別陸戦隊をブナに派遣することを考えたいと思います。ラバウルの北2ヘクスのところに、満州からラバウルに一個師団を輸送して来たTFがいます。本当は今頃すでにラバウルで揚陸を始めていなければいけないのですが、Do not unloadの設定を外すのを忘れていて、そのまま呉に帰りかけようとしています。この失敗に気付いてから、いっそのことこのままブナに上陸させようかとも思ったのですが、どうもその決断を下す勇気がありません。ブナに上陸させることは可能でも、乗せていった客船貨物船はすべて失う覚悟が必要ですからね。ブナに移動させるとしたら、ふつうのAmphious TFではなく、Fast Transport TFでないと。
連合軍がポートモレスビーに一個師団を残置したのは、ポートモレスビーへの逆上陸を用心してのことでしょうか?たしかに、ブナ方向へ移動の途中、スタンリー山脈のヘクスにいるあいだはブナ攻撃にもポートモレスビー防衛にも役立たなくなってしまいますから、その心配も分かります。でも、日本側にはポートモレスビーを上陸させる師団を2個用意する余裕がない。もっと早くフィリピンの片がついていればできたかもしれませんが。




あと、連合軍はブナの占領後すぐに飛行場を使えるように、飛行場への爆撃をここ数日控えていたようです。このまま飛行場爆撃がなければfortificationを4にまで上げることができます。でも飛行場ではなく港を爆撃して、fortificationの強化を邪魔してくるかも知れませんね。
