昭和17年10月12日は、夜のフェーズに機雷の爆発音が響きました。昨日はなんの障害もなかったパレンバンへの入り口のヘクスに機雷を仕掛けられていたのでした。こんなところに水上艦で攻勢機雷戦ということはありえず、夜陰に乗じて潜水艦が機雷を敷設していったのでしょう。シンガポール・パレンバン間は、このゲームでも屈指の交通の激しい航路です。このため、次々と触雷が報告され、合計5隻も被害を受けてしまいました。そのうち、ASWに従事していたTFのTB TomozuruとSC Ch 21の2隻は沈没。商船改装の特設哨戒艇のPB Yomei Maruは2780トンと沈没した2艦よりはだいぶ大きいので、Sys 31, Flt 75(49), Eng 18(6), Fire 3と大破しましたが、沈没は免れました。また、航路の性格上、タンカーも2隻が被害を受けましたが、いずれもパレンバン行きの空船だったので沈没はせずに済みました。それでも、AO TsurumiがSys 6, Flt 43(31), Eng 0, Fire 0、TK Ogura Maru #3はSys 18, Flt 42(24), Eng 0, Fire 4とやはり大破でした。
朝になってリンガ泊地の東側のヘクスにみとめられた潜水艦が実行犯なんでしょうか。まあ、これを追いかけても沈めるのはまず無理でしょうし、まずは残された機雷の対策をと考え、シンガポールからDMS 2隻の掃海TFを出発させました。掃海作業が完了するまで一時的にこの航路は使用中止にしようと思います。触雷しなかったタンカーも休みなくfuelとoilをパレンバンからシンガポールに輸送してきたもので、どれも少しずつダメージがたまっています。これを機に修理ができて幸いと、前向きに考えることにしました。
昼になって、カルカッタから四発爆撃機73機(Liberator II 13機、B-17E Fortress 45機、LB-30 Liberator 3機、B-24D Liberator 12機)のラングーン空襲がありました。ラングーンにはレーダーがあるのに、7分前にspottedですから、レーダーではなく目視での発見のようです。15機のA6M3b Zeroと30機のKi-44-IIa Tojoと4機のKi-45 KAIa Nickが迎撃したと報告されていますが、アニメーションの感じだと実際に接敵できたのは半分くらいかな。でもCAPはかなりがんばってくれて、飛来した爆撃機のうちの22機(Liberator II 11機、B-17E Fortress 10機、B-24D Liberator 1機)が損失になり、CAP側の被害は合計9機(Ki-44-IIa Tojo 6機、A6M3b Zero 3機)でした。夜間爆撃だと一方的に損害を受ける日本の戦闘機も、昼間だときちんとした仕事ができます。戦闘機を護衛につけてあればかなり違った結果になったとおもわれます。でも、ラングーン空襲に戦闘機を護衛につけるには、チッタゴンにP-38を配備しなければなりません。チッタゴンは日本側の戦力でも爆撃が可能な位置にありますから、今日は護衛なしでどうなるか小手調べだったんじゃないかと思います。
A2Aアニメが終わった後に爆撃のアニメに移りますが、驚いたことに飛行場爆撃ではなく港湾爆撃でした。先日、ラシオの地上で合計29機もむなしく破壊された二式戦の2個戦隊がこのラングーンで完全休養中なので、またここで地上破壊される運命なのかなと危惧したのですが、それが目的ではなかったようです。500爆弾はPort hits 5、Port fuel hits 2に加えて、港にdisbandしてあったAMc Kaika Maruに一発命中して沈没しました。AMcは特設掃海艇です。どうしてラングーン港に掃海艇がいたかというと、ラングーンへは頻繁にサプライを積んだコンボイが入港しているので、(今日のパレンバンのように)連合軍がラングーンの入り口のヘクスに機雷を敷設したときの対策にと思ってのことでした。連合軍側の偵察情報にはラングーンに碇のマークとともになにか高価値な艦船の在泊が報告されていて、それを目標にわざわざ空襲に来たんじゃないでしょうか。ところが、73機もの四発爆撃機をくりだしての戦果がPort hits 5、Port fuel hits 2とAMc 1隻の戦果ではかなりがっかりだったろうと想像します。
