昭和17年10月21日、大きな戦闘はありません。しかし、気になったことh2－3あります。まずビルマですが、今日もMagweに夜間爆撃がありました。38機の爆撃機が5波に分かれて来襲し、Airbase hits 4、Airbase supply hits 1、Runway hits 18と駐機中の機体が地上で4機破壊されました。まあ、この程度の被害は甘受しますが、問題なのはCAPが飛んでいなかったこと。連日のMagwe夜間爆撃で、これまでCAPを指示していた二式複戦の部隊の疲労度が上がり、士気が下がり始めました。そこで、今日から二式戦の第11戦隊に夜間のCAPを交替するよう指示しておきました。それなのになぜCAPが上がっていなかったんでしょう？昨夜のMagweはClear skyで、天候が原因だったとは思えません。またこの戦隊のMorale値は90と高くはありませんが、攻撃的任務ではなくCAPですから、任務に支障を来すほど低いとも思えません。CAPに上がっても夜間は連合軍爆撃機に撃墜されるばかりだし、CAPがいてもいなくても爆撃の被害に大きな違いはないと、賢い指揮官はみきってしまっているんでしょうか？もし今晩もCAPに飛んでくれていないようなら、真剣に原因を究明する必要があるかもです。

アニメーションの途中、ラバウルの北西に隣接するヘクスで、二式大艇がS-18級の潜水艦を攻撃したことが報告されました。コンバットイベントのファイルで確認してみるとS-18 class SSと個艦名ではなく艦種名での報告ですから、命中はしていないんでしょう。こんなどうでもいいことをなぜここに書いたかというと、この二式大艇の所属する14th Ku T-1はラバウルに配置されていて、ラバウルの南西、180-260度でソロモン海とポートモレスビーの南方あたりのNaval Searchを指示されているからです。つまりラバウルの南西を哨戒しているはずの二式大艇が、ラバウルの北西で潜水艦を発見して攻撃を試みたというわけです。
海上哨戒任務をする部隊にSearch Arc(哨戒海面)を指定しても、出撃する根拠地から4ヘクス以内は全周360度を哨戒してくれるといわれています。これまでにも、指定した方角と違った方向の海面に潜水艦がみつかることは頻繁にありましたが、こうやって攻撃してくれると、たしかに全周を哨戒してくれていることが確認できます。いまマニュアルを調べてみましたが、該当するルールを見つけることができませんでした。このゲームのマニュアルは、書かれていないルールの多いことが欠点です。
ニューギニアの状況ですが、サラモアから北西に移動している日本の地上部隊に50機のB-24D Liberatorの爆撃がありました。この部隊に対する爆撃は初めてです。死傷者7名、disabledになったdeviceが一つだけと、四発爆撃機50機の爆撃にしては被害はとても軽く済みました。きっとジャングルの中にいるおかげなのでしょう。爆撃による直接の被害はこのように少ないのですが、爆撃を受けると自衛のためmove modeからcombat modeに自動的に移行してしまって、一日に移動できる距離が短くなってしまうことの方が困ります。連合軍もサラモアから日本軍部隊が脱出しつつあることを発見して、この移動を妨害するために爆撃を始めたのだろうと思います。南岸のTerapoから北上している部隊の他に、ブナからサラモア方向に移動している部隊も4ついるようです。
