昭和17年7月11日は細々としたやりとりがありました。まずは、BB榛名と金剛、CA那智、CL阿賀野がブナに艦砲射撃を敢行。戦艦2隻が含まれているのですから大きな戦果を期待したいところですが、死傷者67名(合計で17分隊がdisabled)になっただけでした。7月6日にもBB榛名と金剛にCL能代でブナに艦砲射撃を実施していて、その時は死傷者34名の被害だけが報告されました。ガダルカナル島への艦砲射撃では、ヘンダーソン飛行場が火の海になったはずだと思うのですが、こんなに連合軍基地への被害が少ないのは何故なんでしょう？ブナのDetection Levelは連日9~10/10だし、ちゃんと弾着観測機は飛んでいるし。LCUに向けて射撃するだけではなく、規模6の飛行場にむけて射撃して欲しいんですが。単に2回続けて運が悪かっただけなのかな。
午後になって、ポートモレスビーからラバウルに4機のB-26 Marauderが飛来。CAPの屠龍とゼロ戦が4機とも撃墜しました。7月9日にも18機のB-26 Marauderがラバウルの港湾爆撃にやってきたことを先日のエントリーで報告しましたが、今日は在泊TFへの攻撃を企図したものだったようです。連合軍側は機雷を多用する傾向があり、ラバウルのヘクスに機雷を敷設されると嫌だなと思ってAMcを停泊させていて、これが狙われたんだと思います。ただ、このAMcを狙ったのはAIの指揮官の判断で、連合軍側の最高司令官の本当の狙いはMadangでサプライを陸揚げしているFasttransport TFだったんじゃないかなと想像します。普通の輸送船だと陸揚げに時間がかかるので、ニューギニア東部の日本軍への補給はすべてFasttransport TFで実施しています。軍艦はもったいないので、14ノットで1000トンのサプライを積載できるPBをつかってます。Madangに陸揚げされたサプライはラエに集積されます。先日、ブナをたたき出された部隊は、まだブナの北西のヘクスを北西に向けて行軍中ですが、ラエから6日ごとに補充を受けて少しづつ回復しつつあります。ブナの攻略は連合軍側の予想以上に日数がかかったんだと思います。きっとそれを教訓に、ニューギニア東岸の日本側根拠地の攻略のためにポートモレスビーから増援部隊をブナに向かわせ始めたようです。
想定外の出来事が二つ。ひとつはエスピリッツサント諸島のルーガンビルに米軍艦載機による爆撃がありました。67機のSBD-3 Dauntlessと15機のTBF-1 Avengerによる爆撃で滑走路に36、飛行場施設に16のダメージを受けました。ルーガンビルに配備してある飛行機は二式大艇だけなので、飛行場に被害が出てもまあいいかな。なんといっても、ニューギニア東部に火がついている現状では、このルーガンビルはすでにあまり大きな意味をもたなくなっています。ルーガンビルの南4ヘクスのEffateなんかはもっとそうなので、駐屯していた地上部隊をすでに全員を転進させました。
そして今日いちばんの驚きが、リプレイの最後にやってきました。陸戦フェーズに突然、ウェーク島が表示されたんです。上陸戦だと、連合軍側の上陸援護射撃があって、その後の陸戦フェーズで地上部隊同士の戦闘になるはずなのに、前触れの上陸援護射撃がなかったので驚きました。一回目は日本側の砲撃で双方に被害なし。ウェーク島はatollなので、2回目は連合軍側からのshock attackがありました。修正前AVは連合軍側26、日本側72です。マニュアル8.4.2.1 GROUND COMBAT SEQUENCEによると
地上戦闘は以下の順序で実施される：
1. 攻撃側が砲撃する
2. 守備側が射撃する(攻撃側が砲撃のみの設定のときには、砲撃だけで反撃)
3. 攻撃側が砲撃のみの設定のときには、ここで戦闘は終了する。そうでなければ以下に続く
4. 攻撃側が射撃する
5. 強襲フェーズ
となっています。この連合軍側の攻撃は上記の2番目の守備側の射撃の段階ですべて蹴散らされてしまったようで、強襲フェーズで修正AV値が表示されることもなく、”ssault collapses, attacking force wiped out”ということで終了しました。ウェーク島にやってきた2nd Marine Raider Bnは、昭和17年7月にタラワへの奇襲上陸を行った部隊で、このゲームでも潜水艦をつかった奇襲上陸作戦を行える属性(パラシュート兵属性)をもっています。今日のプレイで上陸援護射撃がなかったのは、潜水艦による上陸だったからだと思います。アメリカ軍は昭和17年4月に、SS Argonaut, Nautilus, NawhalをSSTに改装することが出来ます。SST Argonaut,は兵員を110名、SST Nautilus, Nawhalは70名ずつ輸送することができます。3隻合計で250名を運べるわけですが、コンバットリポートには死傷者264名と報告されているので、だいたい見合った数ですね。
実は、この戦闘のコンバットリポートにはJapanese ground losses: 264 casualties reportedと載せられています。まるで日本側に死傷者264名の被害が出て、日本側の部隊がひとつ全滅したように読めますよね。でも実際には日本側の被害は皆無でした。これはバグではなくて、FoWだということなんでしょうか？とても不思議。また、連合軍側のコンバットリポートにも同じように書かれているのだとすると、連合軍最高司令官は2nd Marine Raider Bnの諸君の貴い犠牲により、日本側にもこんなに多くの被害を与えることができたと思っているのかも知れません。そして、こんな感じでウェーク島の防御には成功しましたが、連合軍側にとっては守備側の兵力を知ることができたことが収穫でしょう。陸戦隊一部隊しかいないことや、沿岸砲部隊がいないこともばれてしまいました。本気で上陸船団を送り込めば簡単に奪取できると感じたんじゃないでしょうか。
