昭和17年7月26日、夜のフェーズは下関で沿岸砲がSS Thresherに発砲しているところから始まりました。第二次大戦初期までの潜水艦は可潜艦に過ぎず、夜間は水上を航走していることがふつうだったということですから、本土の沿岸砲の砲撃ということで場所的には非常に驚きましたが、いちおう納得できる展開です。SS Thresherは引き続き下関のヘクスで触雷。触雷の効果音が大きくて沈没音は効かれませんでした。リポートでは合計3個の機雷に接触したことが報告されましたが、下関の情報画面でも防御機雷の数が3個減っていました。TrackerによるとSS Cuttlefishが沈没したということです。艦名はTrackerとリポートとどちらが正しいのか分かりませんが、これは沈没確実でしょうね。それにしても、開戦前からの日本本土沿岸ヘクスの機雷の敷設状況を連合軍側も知っているはずで、どうして機雷が400もある下関のヘクスに潜水艦を侵入させたのかは謎です。もしかするとreaction rangeを1に設定してあって、日本のTFの動きにつられてたまたま侵入してしまったのかもしれません。
その後、ニューギニアのMadangの東側のヘクスでMadanga行きのFasttransport TFのPB Heizan MaruがSS S-34に雷撃され沈没しました。ニューギニア東岸の日本軍部隊への補給はほとんどすべてMadangへのFasttransport TFが行っているので、迎撃のために潜水艦を配置するのは賢いやり方だと思います。このPB Heizan Maruは、7月13日にMadangで撃沈されて輸送任務を遂行できなかったAPDが乗せていた部隊の残りをトラックから運んで来ていました。今日も部隊に死傷者9名の被害が出てしまいました。
その後、香港のヘクスでSS Troutがresourceを陸揚げ中のxAK Tusima Maruを雷撃して、不発。SS Troutはもう一度、昼のフェーズでもxAK Tusima Maruを雷撃してやはり不発でした。蘭印・ビルマ・マレー半島の資源はシンガポールに集め、シンガポールから大きめの輸送船団で香港へ輸送。フィリピンの資源はマニラに集め、マニラから香港へ輸送。香港からは陸路上海まで送り、上海から本土へというのが、現在の日本の資源輸入の方法です。香港・上海間を海上輸送するのに必要な船腹と燃料を節約しているつもりですが、余分な積み降ろしにかかる時間がもったいないでしょうか？みなさんはどうしています？
香港にはタンカー・輸送船が集まるので、図のように対潜哨戒を密にして、潜水艦に備えていたのですが、香港のヘクスにどうどうと乗り込まれ、しかも昼のフェーズでは見失っている(図には連合軍潜水艦のアイコンがない)というのも情けない話です。6.4.4.1 SUBMARINES VS. SURFACEには
規模3以上の港にdockしている艦船とdisbandされている艦船を除いて、潜水艦は同じヘクスにいるどんな艦船でも攻撃対象とする可能性がある。
と書かれています。規模3以上の港でもdockせずに陸揚げ中の船は潜水艦に攻撃される可能性があることを、今日の出来事で再確認させられました。香港の港は規模8でdockingの容量が12万8千トンもあります。それでもコンボイを送り出す側のシンガポール港の規模が9なので、受け入れ側の香港の容量がそれに追いつけず、商船のdockできない事態がしょっちゅうあります。dockできないと今回のように潜水艦に狙われることにもなるし、dockできないと積み降ろしにかかる時間も長くなってしまうので、香港の港の規模9に拡張するべきかなと感じました。また大きな港のヘクスに堂々と連合軍潜水艦が侵入して攻撃されるのは癪です。やはり防御機雷を敷設することも必要のようです。
日本の機雷は、Type 88, Type 93, Type 4の3種類があります。Type 93は潜水艦用なので、味方の港湾に敷設するとすればType 88かType 4になると思います。Type 88は20ノットほど出せる機雷敷設用巡洋艦CM用の機雷で、Type 4は13ノットのCMc(沿岸用coastalのCMという意味なのでしょう)とCMのうち平島級と測天級の搭載する機雷です。CMが連合軍の港湾の敷設任務に出撃する可能性もなくはないのでType 88は温存すべきかと。後方の香港には、威力はだいぶ落ちますが潜水艦よけには効果があると思うので、CMcにType 4を敷設させようかと思います。
