護衛空母3隻に爆弾命中


ニューギニア南岸のMeraukeにコンボイとそれを護衛する空母が発見されたことは昨日とエントリーでお報せしました。画期的な対抗手段はとれないのですが、こんなところを放置するのもなんなので、まず北方に距離8ヘクスのホーランディアにいた千歳空ゼロ戦(A6M3b)隊にsweepさせてみました。32機と3機の2波にわかれてしまってのsweepになり、A2Aで14機、Ops Loss 2機、パイロットの死傷もKIA 5名、WIA 1名、MIA 7名の大損害を受けました。ゼロ戦はだめですね、やはり。
そして、チモール島のクーパンからダーウィンに移動させた一式陸攻(G4M1)とゼロ戦(A6M2)が、このMeraukeにいる連合軍TFを攻撃しました。ダーウィンにはAir HQがないので雷装はできません。午前と午後、2波合計で62機の一式陸攻が爆装して向かいました。護衛のゼロ戦はA2Aで11機、Ops Loss 2機、パイロットの死傷もKIA 5名、WIA 2名、MIA 3名と大きな損害を受けましたが、ゼロ戦が体をはって護衛してくれたおかげで、陸攻にはA2Aでの撃墜はありませんでした。
陸攻隊パイロットのNavTスキルは全員70以上です。沿岸ヘクスを遊弋している護衛空母が相手ですから雷装していればそれなりの数の命中を期待できたでしょう。しかし空母の艦攻パイロットとは違って、NavBスキルはよくてせいぜい50台、低い人だと30くらいの人も少なくありません。6000フィートと低めの高度からの爆撃でもほとんど命中は期待できないかなと思っていました。しかし、合計で4発が命中。うちCVE Hammondsportに命中したのは60kg爆弾なので、たいしたダメージは期待できないでしょう。CVE Long Islandには250kg爆弾が一発命中して、いちおう火災が発生。そして250kg爆弾が2発命中したCVE Kittyhawkには、Fuel Storage Explosionと表示されました。これってどのくらいのダメージを期待できるんでしょう?fuelが航空燃料なら大被害となりそう(レキシントンや大鳳のように)ですが、艦船の燃料である重油ならそうでもないのか。
ともかく、残念ながらこの攻撃による沈没艦はありませんでした。大きなダメージを受けたとしてもMeraukeは連合軍の根拠地があるヘクスですから、disbandさせてしまえば沈没は免れそうです。また、この護衛空母2隻中破、1隻小破の戦果を得るために被った航空機の損失は、前述のようにゼロ戦が合計29機と陸攻が4機(対空砲火で3機とOps Loss 1機)。それに対して連合軍CAPの損失は21機でした。まあまあな取引といったところでしょうか。ところで、先月、移動直後の飛行隊は移動にかかった時間のせいで攻撃できないというエントリーで、DevのMichaelmさんの
飛行隊の移動した距離とも関連している。移動は即座に済んでしまうが、実際には午前か午後に移動するわけで、移動した距離により攻撃的任務に出発できるかどうかのチェックが入る。移動距離が短ければ、その飛行隊は午後に攻撃任務に出発できるかもしれない。しかし移動距離が長ければ、任務には全く飛んでくれないだろう。
という発言を紹介しました。これまで根拠地間を移動させた飛行隊がそのターンに攻撃に飛び立ってくれなかった経験が何回かあるがこの発言を読んでその理由がよく分かったと思ったものです。しかし今日、Meraukeの護衛空母を攻撃したのは、今日、チモール島クーパンからダーウインまで距離12ヘクスを移動させたばかりの飛行隊(陸攻もゼロ戦も)です。その飛行隊がダーウィンから距離13ヘクスのMeraukeまで、午前と午後の2回も攻撃してくれたのでびっくりしました。陸攻隊の定数は45機で、2波合計で62機の攻撃をするには移動後に午前と午後の攻撃2回とも参加した機体が少なくとも17機は存在します、またゼロ戦隊の定数は36機で撃墜されたものも少なくありませんから、2波で合計71機が護衛につくには、ほとんどの機が移動と2回の護衛をこなしたんだろうと思います。そのせいか護衛についた3空ゼロ戦隊のmoraleは71、fatigueは33で、損失機のより多かったsweep任務の千歳空ゼロ戦隊のmorale 72、fatigue 13より疲労がかなり高くなっていました。
今日の戦闘の締めくくりはI-156。MeraukeのヘクスでDD Duncanを雷撃し、みごと撃沈。DD Duncanは昭和17年竣工のまだ新しい船ですから、コンボイではなく、きっと空母TFの護衛についていたものでしょう。できれば駆逐艦でなくて、空母自体を攻撃してほしかったところではありますが、贅沢はいえませんね。I-156は反撃の爆雷攻撃でSys 7, Flt 3の被害を受けてしまいましたが、修理に回航することはせず、もう一日Meraukeのヘクスで頑張ってもらうことにしました。
ホーランディアからアンボンへAir HQを移動させたことも昨日のエントリーでお報せしました。また、危機迫る(気がする)蘭印防衛のためにマニラにいた歩兵師団一個もアンボンに移動させ、揚陸中でした。万が一、それら揚陸中のコンボイが連合軍TFに襲撃されることも心配で、重巡古鷹と軽巡川内がアンボンでパトロールしていました。Meraukeに連合軍TF発見の報せを聞いて、このTFは昨日アンボンを出航し、Meraukeまで距離8ヘクスの地点まで進出しました。連合軍に気付かれずにいれば、Meraukeで陸揚げ中のコンボイを夜襲できるかなと思ってのことでした。しかし天網恢々粗にして漏らさずといいましょうか、アンボンを出航した直後、SS KXVに発見されました。SS KXVは駆逐艦陽炎に魚雷を放ちましたが、幸いにも命中はしませんでした。しかし、古鷹と川内に駆逐艦6隻というTFの構成をしっかり見られてしまいました。駆逐艦2隻くらいという感じでの発見報告なら連合軍もASW TFと思ってくれたかも知れませんが、CA、CL入りがばれてしまっては警戒するでしょうね。このままMeraukeにつっこませるかどうか悩みました。じつはHorn Islandにも7隻からなる連合軍TFの存在が発見されています。これの内訳が不明なのが残念なのですが、もし巡洋艦を含むようなSCTFで、これからMeraukeのカバーに動くようだと古鷹・川内が相手をするには荷が重すぎます。本来なら撤退させるべきなんでしょうが、moonlight 3%の闇夜だということで、突っ込ませてみることにしてしまいました。今日のリプレイを見るのがこわい。
