昭和17年9月26日、セレベス島北岸でASW任務に就いていたSC Ch 33がSS KXVIの魚雷をくらって沈没しました。バリクパパンからのタンカーを狙って、いつもこのあたりには複数の連合軍潜水艦が遊弋しています。バリクパパンのfuelは本土ではなく、主にトラックやパラオに輸送しています。そのためにはマカッサル海峡を北上してセレベス海に抜けるルートが近道ですが、敵潜が多いので避けることにして、このところはマカッサル海峡を南下してフロレス海を通過させています。ただし、まったく艦船の通行がないと連合軍も不審に思うだろうと考えて、ASW TFだけセレベス海方面をパトロールさせていたのでした。その駆潜艇がやられちゃうようじゃ、だめですね。
その後、トレス海峡のHorn Island 北東のヘクスでI-24がAM Milduraを発見・攻撃しました。AM Milduraは前日、Meraukeで一式陸攻の爆撃を受けてon fire, heavy damageという状態だったのですが、魚雷を2本ともはずしてしまいました。連合軍側プレイヤーはアメリカの魚雷に不発が多いことを嘆きますが、日本の潜水艦は魚雷をはずすことが多くてがっかりです。
連合軍がMeraukeに繰り返しコンボイを送り込んでいることを考えると、ここの飛行場を強化してニューギニア島北岸のホーランディアを制圧し、アラフラ海を西に向けて侵攻する意図を強く感じます。Merauke飛行場の拡張を少しでも遅らせようと、ダーウィンから百式重爆11機が夜間空襲にむかいましたが、命中弾0でした。月明92%でどうして一発も命中しないのか不思議。連合軍の爆撃機は本当によく命中させてくるのにね。
MeraukeにはきっとCAPがいるだろうと考えて、ホーランディアのゼロ戦(A6M3b)にはMeraukeへのsweepを指示してありました。昼になって44機が2波に分かれてsweepを実施。21機のP-40E WarhawkがCAPしていました。ゼロ戦が6機損失(A2Aで4機、Ops loss 2機)に対して、P-40E Warhawkは18機損失(A2Aで17機、Ops loss 1機)のスコアで、P-40E Warhawkをほぼ全滅させる戦果を得ました。リプレイ後にマップを確認するとMeraukeには飛行機マークはついていましたが、機数などが表示されません。P-40E WarhawkはHorn IslandからLRCAPしていて、損傷したP-40E WarhawkがMeraukeに降りたんだと思われます。
このSSはMeraukeをsweepした252Ku S-1(RA modの固有の飛行隊かもしれません)です。KIA 3となっていますから、Ops lossの1機のパイロットは無事だったようです。SSの中央部に緑色の文字で、Replacements delayedと表示されています。その左上にCurrent delay is 6day(s).と表示されているので、今日の空戦で失われた4機のA6M3bをゲームエンジンさんが補充してくれたことが分かります。でもこれって有り難迷惑な気がします。もし手動で私が機体を補充するとしたら、失われた4機に加えて、予備機4機も補充しますから。現状は補充済みになってしまっていて、この状態だと予備機を受け取ることができません。このゲームにはこういうおバカな仕様が各所にみられるので、プレイヤーの多くがmicromanagementではあっても、自分流儀にやりたいと思うんだと思います。ちょっとずれますが、この252Ku S-1の指揮官のCPT MInami V.さんのAirスキルは33と最悪なことに今気づきました。更迭した方がよさそう。
