昭和18年1月4日はI-17がニューカレドニア東方で撃沈されました。I-17はGlen搭載潜水艦なので、もっと大切に使わなくてはいけなかったと反省しています。それにしても、このI-17を沈めた連合軍のTFはASW目的なのでしょうか？CA3隻とCLAA1隻とDD8隻という構成からみて、空母機動部隊の可能性も完全には否定はできません。ショートランドの二式大艇の哨戒圏内ですが、残念ながら昼間になってみるとこの場所にTFは見あたりませんでした。ただ、この海域にはもう1隻RO-67がいて、昼間に5回も航空機による対戦攻撃を受けました。幸い5回ともはずれたようで無傷でした。この攻撃を考えると、やはり空母を含んだASW目的のTFということでいいのかな。
もう一つ気になる動きが、中国戦線に見られます。3日ほど前から、Ichang(宜昌)に駐屯していた中国軍部隊の一部(とはいっても20万もの大軍)が北東に移動しはじめました。このまま森林から平地ヘクスに移動した後、さらに北東に向かってNanyang(南陽)を目指すのか、それとも北西に転じてAnkang(安康)方面に向かうのか、または二手に分かれて両方を狙うのか。どちらに行かれても、安康や西安への補給の障害になるので困ります。下記の通り、空爆で叩いてはいるのですが、晴れの日にHelenとSallyの合計138機で死傷者298名、disabled suard合計41と、森林のヘクスなので効果が薄いようです。この大軍の相手をできるだけの地上部隊が手元にないので、いろいろ動かして対応を検討中です。
